Chillicothe at Marietta 9/16

Post by Bucknuts »

Should be another good Chillicothe / Marietta clash.

In 2007 these squads tied 2-2 and Marietta went on to win the SEOAL. Last year Chillicothe won the regular season match-up 3-0 and went on to win the SEOAL. Marietta then avenged the regular season loss with a 2-1 upset of Chillicothe in the districts.

This is an important SEOAL game for both teams.

Marietta's loss to Logan coupled with their previous tie at Jackson put Warren back in the hunt in the East Division. Marietta still must play Warren a second time.

Although Chillicothe has a 1 1/2 game lead on Logan in the West Division, a loss at Marietta would tighten things up with a Chillicothe trip to Logan still down the road.
A Chillicothe victory would make it very tough for Logan to catch Chillicothe in the standings with only 3 league games remaining. (Chilly is at Gallia and Logan; Home v Jackson)

Jackson is also still in the hunt for the league title.

Marietta is coming off two straight losses in which they failed to score a goal. Chillicothe has not been allowing many goals. (8 goals in 8 games)

There's a real possibility that these two teams may meet again in a few weeks in the SEOAL Championship game. That one would be at Chillicothe.

I would expect another tight game between these two foes Tuesday night.

Any thoughts?

This could be a good game if we can keep you out of the net!!!

We graduated 5 seniors last year, 4 were defensemen. Goalie, sweeper, marking back and stopper.
They have been replaced with sophmores. They play well but they are young and not a lot of pure speed.
The goalie is a junior, and is as good if not better then last year.

Our strikers are both juniors and both played varsity last year.

We only have two seniors and sometimes three starting. Very young group.

Could be a good game but I would probably give the edge to Chilly, but they are teenagers and you never know what team is going to show up.

Chillicothe has a young defense as well. (two sophs and 2 juniors) Actually, the whole team is pretty young.

Soccer always comes down to who makes the fewest mistakes, and how those mistakes are capitalized upon. Both teams should be fired up for this one.

It is sometimes difficult tp play after a very long drive.....let's hope both teams are at their best.

Chillicothe @ Marietta

Chillicothe leads 1-0 into the 76th minute....Marietta score two goals in 27 sec (3:31 and 3:04) to get the win.

Not many offensive chances for either team, very few good looks at the goal. A defensive struggle all night. Good, hard-fought game.

Maybe there will be a rematch. Nice job by the Tigers hanging in there and playing the full 80 minutes. Good win.
