Regular Season OT

Just wanted to hear thoughts about adding two 5-minute, sudden death, overtime periods to games which finish regulation with a tie score.

I'd be okay with it. Or just a single 10 minute overtime session, also sudden death. If still tied, then it is a tie.

Something that wouldn't add a ton of time. I would not like a shootout though, so if that was put into a proposal, I would be against that part of it.

I agree with your comment above. I could see some instances late in the year when adding time on a field without lights would make it tough to finish. There are still a lot of fields in the SE without lights. I guess in that case they would just play until the official determined it was no longer safe.

OT adds a dynamic of time to weeknight contests that is already stretched. With starting and stopping the 10 minutes becomes 20. And with some leagues playing boys and girls on same night it gets tougher to do.

I agree with rxburgfan, with the boys/girls (or jv/var) doubleheaders that happen, really not enough time in the day to get the games in. We are getting back between 10:30 and 11:00 on a school night from a few games every year. Can't see adding time to any game during the season.

I think that if they add the OT factor in HS soccer than they could adjust halftime and make it 5-10 shorter.... More injuries happen because these boys/girls sit down and "relax" for too long at half.... That way the running clock of OT will not "add" time to the matches! shorten halftime!!

Halftime is only 10 minutes, so I don't think that is an option. Especially in the first half of the season, the players need at least a little bit of rest and hydration time, not to mention if someone has to use the restroom or the coach wants to have a few minutes to talk to the team.

I would prefer they do away with OT in HS and college. Season is way to short to add more minutes. Wear and tear is absurd. This season, my [college] guys went into 4+ OT games with 3 going full time (other went 16 minutes of the 20). That added almost another full game to our regular season. That's tiresome. Not good for the body.
