Southeast Boys District Contenders

Post by BananaSC74 »

Who are the top threats from the boys southeast district from watching these early games? Who are the teams who can win a district title or maybe even go farther in regionals?

My top 5 for D3 Southeat In no particular order...

South Webster, Northwest, North Adams, Lynchburg & Rock Hill

Might want to consider Minford if they just knocked off Webster.

Minford in the top 3?... not sure about that one. I like Webster and Lynchburg though.

Is Alexander in the D2 or D3 this year? That is usually a big deal because of how good their program is.

Alexander is D2 again this year.

I don't know if very many have looked ahead, but the SE district (D3) will only have one district champ this year. They calculate that after each season and it's based on how many teams were in the district. The NE district is getting an extra one (5) instead of 4. They call it the representation formula & I checked the numbers - it's correct.

They take the number of teams in DIII and divide by 16 (teams that qualify for regionals) to get a ratio number
There were 194 teams in DIII
194/16 regional qualifying spots = 12.125
That number is used to determine the number of teams qualifying in each district.

SE District had 20 teams last year
20 / 12.125 = 1.64 (that would normally round up to = 2 qualifying teams)

NE District had 57 teams
57 / 12.125 = 4.70 (that would round to 5 teams)

Since .70 is higher than .64 they got the extra one.

Minford has beaten both Webster and Northwest (and tied Burg) so I think they are definitely in the conversation.

Webster losing early might actually be a good thing for them in the long run. Lot of talk in offseason about this possibly being their best team in school history. Don't know if that's true or not, but the opening game loss has definitely woken the Jeeps up. Minford v. Webster is always a dogfight and I wouldn't be surprised to see these two meet up again in the D3 tourney.*
