Burg boys have Cabell Midland at home at 5 tonight and the girls have Chillicothe at 7 also at home. Should be great tests and measuring sticks for both groups.

Boys got beat in 3 thirty minute scrimmage 2-0. They never really got a shot on goal. Played like four to five freshmen. Probably a .500 season

Girls played 4 ...20 minute halves. Starters took a 2-0 lead into third 20 minute half. Chillicothe scored against burgs jv and made it 2-2. One of burgs best players up front got hurt and the game delayed for a little while. Kind of zapped their team a little and Chillicothe ended up scoring two more goals when they resumed making final score 4-2, so it was more like a 2-2 tie with starters. Good news is hurt player will be back in a week or two. Very good player. Burg girls should be have the same successful season as last year maybe better. They are very good.

I figured the boys would struggle a little this year since they lost so many seniors from last years squad. Hard to replace that many players. The burg girls have so many athletes on it, they have good chance of undefeated regular season and strong tournament run. Good luck to both squads on upcoming season.

The Girls final was 5-2. Chillicothe went down 2-0 early on 2 big mistakes that 'burg punished them for. Chillicothe settled down, got 2 goals back and played well for the rest of the night and won the final period 3-0. Impressed with the athleticism and speed of the 'burg players. They'll be a tough team to face down the road in the season, which is one of the reasons why Chillicothe wanted to come down and play them. Definitely a team that made Chillicothe work and pay for mistkes.

Impressed with a few of the Chillicothe Girls in their first scrimmage. The freshman who had 3 is going to be tough in the next few years. Midfield was solid, backs were good, just need to clean up some of the mistakes they made. Both teams are only going to get better as the year goes on.

Good news about the 'burg player being ok after the injury.

You're right it was 5-2. So a 3-2 decision in favor of starters for Chillicothe. Chillicothe was the best team burg has faced in the pre season. Burgs relies on their offense. As soon as the burg player went down it changed the way they attacked. Some of the girls were taking shots 30 yards out and not trying to find the open pass for a better shot. If they don't correct that, they could get upset in the tournament. They have to learn to play unselfish and quit trying to be the best. Chillicothe also started exploiting the defense too in the game. Girls were a little tired and started ball watching and chasing. I thought they matched up with Chillicothe very well but there were some teaching moments for these girls as well.

Would loved to have seen this game. Chillicothe coaches will have everything cleaned up soon, I'm sure. Good game for both teams in preseason. Good luck to both teams.

Fairfield Union boys scrimmaged the "burg" last night and FU came out on top 4 - 0. It was played just like a normal regulnar season game.

The Fairfield Union girls ended the preseason on a high note by going to Columbus and beating Bishop Hartley 2-0. They should be one of the favorites to win the SE district again.

Any more scrimmage results? Burg girls won at Jackson earlier in the week. Minford girls went to Alexander? I heard the Northwest girls and West got a little out of hand and some punches were thrown?

I wouldn't say it got out of hand. Two girls were upset with each other. One threw a punch, the other returned it. It was quickly broken up, their teammates laughed it off with each other and the game returned to normal. Pretty friendly match besides that. West ended up winning 3-1.
