Two for the price of one, Thursday @ Frenchtown's Meat Locker

That's right my fellow SVC volleyball enthusiast you get two, yes two high caliber matchups Thursday night for the cost of one, only $5.00. What a bargain!

5:00pm 1st serve time
In the under card match you will see two of the premier reserve squads in the great volleyball state of Ohio. Adena comes in to revenge their only loss on the season while the Sherman's look to lock up their 3rd (or 4th?) straight reserve SVC crown.
In the X's opinion if both of these squads played the varsity SVC schedule they both would be .500 or better. JMO
Reserve matches are limited to three sets, each to 25.
The X looks for the tune up match to go the full 3 sets and around 130+ points to be scored between the two highly talented jr. Varsity clubs.

In the main event you have two of the best teams in the history of both schools.
Both teams are Senior lead, Adena has 6 while the U rosters 7.
The history between the 2015 classes goes clear back to the 5th grade when basically the same group of girls faced each other for the 6th grade Vinton County league tournament title.
The warriors were heavily favored, seeing 10 and 11 year olds jump serve was very impressive and intimidating. But the young Sherman's prevailed and thus the rivalry was born.

In the 6th grade I can't quite remember the status of the warrior club but the same group of Sherman's repeated their title in the Vinton County league.

7th grade saw the Warriors go undefeated, not dropping a set in a sweep of both the league and tournament titles.

8th grade was much of the same as the Warriors breezed through the regular season having not dropped a match. Ironically the Sherman's entered the tournament with the same record as the Westfall mustangs, who like wise had many of the same girls playing then that are playing this year. The Mustangs got the #2 seed while the Sherman's were 3rd.
The Mustangs were upset by a Piketon squad in the first round so the Sherman's burned a path to the finals similar to General Sherman's march on Georgia.
In the finals:
(From the SVCSPORTSZONE:
Adena entered Wednesday night the owners of a perfect record. In the
early going of the championship match, it looked as if their two-year
perfect run would be completed, but Unioto responded to record the
three-set win 13-25, 25-23, 25-20.

In the first set, Adena broke a 12-12 tie with a 13-1 run to win it in a
blowout. In the middle set, Adena looked as if they were ready to do the
same thing, but with Adena up 19-13, Unioto responded to win 12 of the
next 16 points to even the match.

In the final set, both teams enjoyed small leads throughout. Late in the
set, Unioto gained control as the purple and gold were looking at
match-point at 24-18. Adena survived the first two points before Unioto
scored to win the championship.

The overall level of volleyball was outstanding in this match. Both
Unioto and Adena has several players who are sure to impact the varsity
level in the future. Congrats to Unioto on the tournament title. Also,
congratulations to Adena on winning the regular season title with a
perfect league record.)

You can go to the 2010 jr. High results on the SVCSPORTSZONE and see a picture of the young Sherman champions. (Maybe Warningtrack could post that picture on this thread?)

The freshman season saw the two squads split up with some playing varsity, some reserve and a few on their respective freshman squads. Notable notes from this season: Emily Ward moved into Unioto School district and immediately filled the defensive specialist needs of the U's class of 2015, Adena's varsity swept the Sherman's in route to their latest league title and trip to the Nutter Center.

The sophomore season of the class of 2015 went to the Sherman's, as most of the starters are the same this year as they were then. The Sherman's Swept both games, taking their time to leave the gym in Frankfort drew the ire of many Warrior fans. The X offered a toke of the Frenchtown peace pipe to the Warrior Nation but it was to no avail, Some victories you just gotta savor.

The Junior season was a split with both teams winning at home.
The loss in the Big Blue Wig Wam knocked the Sherman's out of a share of the SVC crown.
Both teams made strong tournament runs and several Adena and Unioto players and fans showed up at each other's games in a show of SVC solidarity and to bury the hatchet from the season before. The hatchet was buried but the handle was left like a tongue, sticking out.......

In the senior year the Warriors have taken two from the Sherman's so far, one in the summer at the Adena LCB tournament and one in the regular season at the Big Blue Wig Wam.
Many a Sherman fan questioned the maintenance schedule of the Warriors Floor mopping, which drew a classic response in the Chillicothe Gazette (i.e. Handle/Tongue sticking out) from legendary Coach Smith.
Again insert the Westfall class of 2015 into this rivalry.
In what many consider The shocker of the season the Mustangs went into Frankfort and took the Warriors in three straight sets. To set the table for Thursdays SVC league leaders show down.

Outside of these two teams school colors several if not all of these players are connected in a 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon kind of way. Many have played club ball together and many have represented the area well by bringing home the OVR regional gold over the years.

The 2015 Sherman's are known for their swagger and athleticism.
The 2015 Warriors are known for their resiliency and scrappiness.
Both teams will be remembered as two of the greatest teams to ever play volleyball in the storied history of the SVC.

Hollywood could not have scripted a more fitting final match-up between these two historic rivals.

From the Meat Locker
Where you pay for the entire seat
But will only use the edge of it

Thanks Ron
Though my spelling is whorrendous
And grammar is even worser.
It does not stop the X from getting on here
and giving props to an awesome league
full of outstanding volleyball players.
The caliber of play in the SVC
is not only a reflection of superior genetics,
but also the result of several great coaches
(school and club)
who spend countless hours
helping these young ladies become
what they are today.

Counting down the hours till game time

I look for The U to "stay hot" and take this one in 4. Since the first time they met, Unioto has only gotten better and The Lady Warriors are still "tweaking" their line-up. Best of luck and good health to both teams...it is going to be fun to watch!

Huge win for the Sherman's.

The Sherman's now need to take care of
Paint Valley on Tuesday to get a share of the SVC
And then face a improved Southeastern on Thursday
A victory there will give the Sherman's the Out Right SVC Iron Throne!

Thursday will also be volley for the cure and Senior night.

A lot going on in the Meat Locker this Thursday that's for sure.
