Who will be the next Portsmouth Coach?

Post by trojanofthepast »

With Coach Poage taking the principals job. I was wondering who will be the next coach of a good young baseball team coming back.

Will He not be returning?
I would say that Keith Dettwiller or Keith Throckmorton would be good choices.

Are the first 3 guys mentioned there even interested in it? I think Aaron Duncan might be a pretty good choice, but didn't think he was able to take it.

Is Brad Porter in the school system? I don't know what he does. I could possibly see them going outside the district. On a side note, congrats to Eugene Collins on getting the head basketball job at PHS. He's a great guy and I know he'll do a good job.

I think it should be Fred Myers, knows the game of baseball well and would be a great High School baseball coach.

Well, well, well, well, well, well looks like rockfish called it about a month ago but no one wanted to admitt to it. I even was called out here on the board about it,and was more or less called a liar. Guess after all I wasn't.

Fred Myers would be an exceptional replacement.

How about 10 miles east on 52.
Michael Estep?
Myers also would not be a bad choice.

I don't care who is the head coach, just have these 4 on the staff!

And bring back those sweet old Phillies uni's from the early to mid 80's.

TB Sports,
Why would you say that about Throckmorton??? He coached at PHS with Poage and was very well liked!!!

It will definitely be someone inside the system in my opinion. Someone that knows this group of boys and knows how to win. It should be between Fred Myers of Aaron Duncan. Both know baseball and both know this group of boys really well. This team would play hard for either of these men. And the program would be in good hands with either one. I hope they make a decision pretty quick so the person in charge can start to establish his system from the beginning of the year. As far as Mike Estepp that is wishful thinking on everyone's behalf. I know Mike and he's really happy at the Burg. He has great support and an abundance of athletes that play baseball. He's established a great program at Burg, and the Portsmouth job he would be rebuilding a once great program that he once came from. Although there is a very talented group of kids coming back from last years team that was mostly Sophs. It would still be rebuilding with no JV and no Freshmen team established from last year.

I really don't think that Coach Throckmorton wants to return to coaching any time soon. I don't know that for sure but I highly doubt that he will return to coaching this year.

Couldn't see Coach Brannon taking it at all.

John Tipton coming back?

Would love to see Coach John Tipton come back home and return the program to it's rightful place on top. The man knows how to win and knows baseball as well as anyone.

He's been living back in Oak Hill area for awhile now. I hear he's very interested in the job. We'll see how things play out, but don't be shocked to see Coach back in the Portsmouth 3rd base coaching box.

Tobias, the man has never left Oak Hill as he's lived there for as long as I can remember.

Interesting about the whole Tipton thing anyway. I know he never gave up on the idea of coming back to the diamond, especially after the SSU ordeal.
