Athens High School field renovation

Post by Gib25 »

Hickory Valley Sod and Albany Nursery have combined to give us new sod on the field and a pop-up irrigation system at Rannow Field. Pepsi is buying a new scoreboard for left-center field and the high school athletic department is helping to buy new uniforms. We hope to have a wind screen by the spring. We also hope to have tarps for the mound and homeplate. Now all we need are some two out hits and some great pitching and life will be good again.

That's awesome that you guys are getting all that work done! Congratulations. Will everything be done by this spring?

The sod is on the field and the pop-up system will be working by tomorrow. We have already received the uniforms. They are sweet! We will be moving the scoreboard poles this fall and we will get our new Daktronics scoreboard in the spring.

The Athens American Legion Post 21 and the Athens Athletic boosters are providing much of the funding for the field renovation. Stop by and see the field if you have time. We still need to water it and then roll it, but you can see the improvement already.

Bulldog64...talked to Coach Stewart today and he was very excited about the renovations, said it looks awesome and is once again one of the better high school facilities in SEO. I'm looking forward to seeing it. I've always thought the field surroundings (ie: press box, stadium, shelter house etc.) were top notch, now the diamond will match. You all should try to play more night games. When we were in Cocoa Beach a few years ago we went to a local high school game. All their games start at 7pm...just like football and basketball. The crowd was huge and the atmosphere was awesome.

It's still a work in progress. We have to see what effect the winter has on the new sod. We will make it right. Baseball fields are a work of art. I love working on the field, but it is a never ending project.

Rannow renovations have certainly been well overdue  . From what I can remember a lethal lip on that infield grass was certainly something to watch out for.
