LANCASTER JV (6) @ ATHENS (2)...

Post by questionmark »

Lancaster JV runs into Athens JV and escapes with a victory catching the Dogs on an off night...

LANCASTER JV - 102 102 0 6 12 1
ATHENS JV - 000 200 0 2 5 4

WP- Bycofski
LP - Goldsberry (1-1)

Lancaster JV managed to do what no team has yet to do and that was defeat the JV Dogs. Athens entered the game (3-0) with wins against (Logan, Marietta,Trimble). It was a nice game for the fans to watch as both pitchers went the distance for their respected teams. Lancaster sent Bycofski to mound as he collected the win. Bycofski allowed 5 hits, 3 walks, hit 2 batters and struck out 6. Curtis Goldsberry was charged with the loss as he went the distance for the JV Dogs. Goldsberry allowed 12 hits, 3 walks, hit 1 and struck out 3.

In the first, Lancaster go out running and running fast. Their was an incident after a ball was hit that moved the runners. As one of the runners rounded third and headed for home he completely ran through Athens Catcher Kevin Deal. Deal was not in the way of the plate and there was not a play at home which raised questions of interference by the runner. Unfortunately, non of the umpires were watching the play at home because there was a play at 3rd. It was bad that the umpires were not able to see the play because something should have been done. However there was nothing they could do because the play drew their attention elsewhere. After this play, it really was a good game by both teams. Lancaster managed 1 run in the 1st as Athens was blanked.
In the 2nd, Lancaster managed only to get one runner on as they were blanked. Athens managed to get two runners on (Germano was hit-by-pitch,Weaver was walked) but they were left stranded.
In the 3rd, Lancaster had a big inning. They scored 2 runs, had 3 hits and two runners reach via HBP and a walk. In the bottom Athens looked to be showing some life. McCollum lead off with single up the middle. Then the energy was taken right away as Lancaster turned a double play. Athens was held scoreless.
In the 4th, Lancaster managed to add another insurance run to increase their lead to (4-0). In the bottom, The JV Dogs did come to life. Noftz managed a walk to lead the inning off. Noftz advanced to 2nd on a Deal infield out. Noftz then advanced to third on a Germano single. Tanner Weaver would step up to the plate. Weaver would deliever sending a line drive into right on a hit and run that would score Noftz and advance Germano to third. Athens would then shoot themselves in the foot as Weaver was caught trying to steal 2nd. Trey Harris would then send a single into center scoring Germano and recording a single. That would be all for the JV Dogs as they cut the lead in half to (4-2).
In the 5th, both teams would be held scoreless.
In the 6th, Lancaster would capitalize on some key Athens errors scoring 2 more insurance runs. Athens then would be shut down 1-2-3.
In the 7th, Lancaster would get only one runner as they were held scoreless. Athens would manage only one runner in the 7th as they couldn't put together a late rally to pull themselves outta the funk they were in for the entire game.
Athens left 5 runners on and commited 4 big errors that would prevent them from avoiding their 1st loss.
