EASTERN JV (3) @ ATHENS JV (13) ...F/5...

The Eastern JV Eagles made the trip to Rannow Field in The Plains, but ran into an Athens JV team hungry for a WIN...

The Athens JV DOGS sent Dean Maffin to the hill and he delievered huge tonight. Maffin was the man as he only allowed 4 hits while walking only 2. The big number was the strikeouts. As Maffin struckout 13 JV Eagles on rout to the WIN. The JV Eagles sent Berringer to the hill as he suffered the loss. He was relieved by Warner. Combined, the JV Eagles allowed 12 hits, walked 10 and struckout 6.

1st Inning, Athens pitcher Maffin shut down the JV Eagles 1-2-3 striking out the side.
In the bottom half, Curtis Goldsberry lead off reaching on an error. Goldberry would advance to 2nd on a steal and to 3rd on a pass ball. He would later score on a Maffin double. Maffin moved to 3rd on a steal and then scored on a Tanner Weaver infield hit. Trey Harris would single, and Kevin Deal would reach via a Hit-By-Pitch. However the JV Dogs would leave the bases loaded in the 1st. (Athens lead 2-0)

2nd Inning, Athens pitcher Maffin again would shut down the side.
In the bottom half, Zoulek and Goldsberry would reach on back-to-back walks. Maffin would reach on a fielders choice scoring Zoulek. Maffin would take 2nd on a steal and reach 3rd on a Colton Noftz single. Maffin would score on a passed ball advancing Noftz all the from 1st to 3rd. Germano would hit a ball to short scoring Noftz, but would be the 2nd out. Tanner Weaver and Harris would then reach on back-to-back walks. However, that would be it for the JV Dogs in the 2nd. (Athens lead 5-0)

3rd Inning, Connelly would collect the JV Eagles first hit with a single to right. However, Maffin would then go on to strikeout the next 3 JV Eagles.
In the bottom half, Shad McCollum and Zoulek would get on with back-to-back singles. McCollum would steal 2nd before being advanced to 3rd on the Zoulek single. Zoulek would then take 2nd standing leaving runners in scoring position. Maffin would step to the plate. Maffin would delievered his second double of the night scoring McCollum easy, however Zoulek would be thrown out at the plate trying to score from 2nd on the play. Noftz then would get walked. Maffin would take 3rd while Noftz would take 2nd. Joey Germano then would drill a shot down the left field line scoring Maffin. Weaver then would reach via a Hit-By-Pitch. That would be all for the JV Dogs as they would again leave the bases loaded. (Athens lead 7-0)

4th Inning, Stone would lead off with a single. Maffin would strike out the next batter. Warner would deliever a double to left center as Tengglia would single right after him. Maffin would strike out the next batter. Warner would score on a past ball as Tengglia would score on a ball that was thrown to second. That'd be it for the JV Eagle in the 4th.
In the bottom half, Deal would get on via his 2nd Hit-By-Pitch. Deal would then steal 2nd and 3rd on one past ball that would roll away from the catcher. After an Athens strikeout, Zoulek would reach with a walk. Zoulek would steal second standing. Curtis Goldsberry then would step in. Goldsberry would deliever a single scoring Deal and advancing Zoulek to 3rd. Dean Maffin would then step in. Goldsberry would steal 2nd. Maffin would then deliever his 3rd double of the night scoring Zoulek and Goldsberry. Maffin then would steal 2nd and then 3rd on back to back pitches. After a JV Dog strikeout, Germano would reach on a walk. Germano then would steal 2nd leaving Maffin and himself in scoring position. Tanner Weaver would step in. Weaver would deliever a huge shot to right field scoring both Maffin and Germano while collecting a triple. However on the play, the JV Eagles would throw home trying to get Germano out as the ball rolled away. Weaver rounded 3rd and attempted to run for home as the JV Eagles pitcher backed the play up and threw to the catcher. Weaver then manged to get in a run down but was thrown out at 3rd. (Athens lead 12-3)

5th Inning, Athens pitcher Maffin would strike out the 1st two JV Eagle batters, before walking Stone. Maffin would find his stuff and deliever another strikeout.
In the bottom half, Athens needed only 1 run to get the 5 Inning 10 run Mercy Rule. JV Eagles pitcher Warner would strikeout the lead off batter. He then would go on to strike out DH Kevin Deal, however the ball skipped away from the catcher and Deal reached. Shad McCollum then would deliever a Sacrifice Bunt moving Deal to 2nd. Then stepping to the plate was Andrew Zoulek. Zoulek had already singled and reached via to walks. With a full count and 2 outs Zoulek would jump on it. Zoulek singled to left scoring Deal and ending the ball game due to the Run Rule Mercy.(Athens WINS 13-3)

With the WIN, Athens JV improves to (4-2). The WIN also snaps the JV Dogs 2-game losing streak.
The JV Dogs will HOST the Zanesville JV Blue Devils tomorrow, and then travel to Parkersburg South JV before hosting the Marietta JV Tigers Friday before heading to Sheridan Saturday for a Double-Header...
