Gallipolis edges Meigs, 5-4

Host Gallipolis edged Meigs 5-4 in a non-league baseball outing on Memorial Field Wednesday evening.

The win left Gallipolis 2-1-1 on the year. Meigs dropped to 0-3.

Gallipolis will host Portsmouth Thursday in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League game.

Prior toThursday’s regularly scheduled game at 4 p.m., GAHS and Portsmouth will finish the suspended game of March 30 with the score tied 4-4 after six complete innings.

Wednesday, GAHS rallied from one run deficits twice to defeat the Marauders.

In the first, MHS took a 1-0 lead, but GAHS scored twice to take a 2-1 lead. Neither team scored in the second or third innings.

Meigs grabbed a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth frame, but GAHS came back with a pair in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-3 advantage.

In the top of the fifth, Meigs tied it up 4-4. The Blue Devils came back with a run in their half of the inning to make it 5-4.

Austin Roush went six innings and was credited with the win. Beau Whaley hurled the final inning in relief. Dunlap started for Meigs and was the loser.

After Thursday’s contest, GAHS will battle Chillicothe at Chillicothe on Friday.
