ATHENS 6 MEIGS 3 IN SECTIONAL TOURNAMENT
Athens scored 6 runs on just 3 hits to advance to the sectional champioship game versus Gallia Academy on Saturday. Abby Pomento(9th grader) scattered 5 hits and Athens got a 3 run homerun by Raven Cline, a 2b by Anna Pomento and a 1b by Abby Pomento to take the win. Athens got up 3-0 on Cline's HR only to see Meigs battle back to tie the game in the bottom of the 6th. Athens retook the lead on a walk, and error, 1 stolen base, a 1b by Abby Pomento and a wild pitch that scored 2 runs to give them a cushion going into the bottom of the 7th. Great win for a team that has been snake bitten all year long. This team could be a spoiler in the tournament. Great job LADY BULLDOGS!! Your defense was outstanding!!
