Athens, down 7-4 in the top of the sixth inning, rallied to edge host Gallipolis 8-7 in the south sectional finals on Memorial Field Monday.

The game was a continuation of Saturday's game which was halted by rain in the top of the third inning with GAHS on top,3-1.

Athens scored two unearned runs to knot the count at 3-all in its half of the third.

Gallipolis forged ahead 7-4 in its half of the fifth.

A three-run homer by an Athens pinch-hitter gave Athens and 8-7 advantage, then AHS held GAHS scoreless in its half of the 7th to advance to Tuesday's district tournament at Unioto.

What a great game. Jayne Seymour, sidelined by injury for the second half of the season, hit the first pitch she saw as a pinch hitter over the left field fence to give the Bulldogs a one run lead they refused to give up. Gallia had scored 4 in the bottom of the 6th to overcome a one run deficiet. After scoring once in the 7th, Athens was down to their last out, but got singles from Richelle Hecker and Kayla Nicholson before Seymour's blast. Abby Pomento got the win, scattering 10 hits. The Lady Bulldogs had 13, including doubles by Hecker and Emily Stout. Athens plays Logan Elm at Unioto on Tuesday in the District tournament

Not sure anyone said dominate! One run or five, it all goes down in the books the same.
