Should be a great one to watch. Where is Ironman? I'm sure everyone would like to know his opinion on this game.

Re: North Adams vs Portsmouth
Very interesting thoughts on this game. How ANYONE can say that North Adams would not be favored, is beyond me. North Adams is an excellent program that has the unique situation of being able to concentrate on basketball for 9-10 months a year. That is not typical in portsmouth and many other schools who have a fuller array of sports offered at the school.
On the basketball court, Peebles, North Adams, etc. will always be a handful. Obviously they are the real deal this year, running the table. They were upset last year by Fairland, in a game they should have never lost. I am sure they are very hungry and rightfully should be heavy favorites on Friday.
That being said, I doubt they played a team all year that is as athletic as this Portsmouth bunch. if the trojans all turn the light on at the same time, they can be very very dangerous. If it becomes a freethrow contest, North Adams will win big. However, if the game is more physical and PHS can put 4 quarters together "as a team", they could have a real shot at the upset.

I keep thinking back a few years,,when we played at RIO GRande, and like this game,,we was not suppose to have a Chance, against a very very good Alaxander team, they had us on height, talent, and over all athletes....but ,,,,we came out on top.
I know this means NOTHING,,except one thing,,,,untill we are beat, we have a chance
by the way, this would be a much bigger upset,I know.

Re: North Adams vs Portsmouth
frank n' beans: I have a problem with a couple of your points. First of all, it doesnt' matter who Portsmouth defeated in 1994, 1999, or 2001 for their 3 district titles after Suboticki........they still count. What do you mean weak opponents?......It's the tournament.......you play who you are supposed to play. By the way, just for information, they defeated Greenfield McClain in both 1994 and 1999, and Warren in 2001. Those were not weak programs. Greenfield McClain was 20-3 in 1994, 15-8 in 1999, while I believe that Warren won the SEOAL in 2001.
By the way, Allan Hatcher left on his own......he was not fired......and he was 9-12 in his only year at PHS.......and he shouldn't have gotten the job in the first place......it should have gone to Mike Haley, the other candidate and hometown alumnus of Portsmouth High School.......he had 4 state titles on his resume as coach in addition to winning the 1961 state title as a player.......he didn't get the job because of the color of his skin......and I stood out in front of the Scudder building and let all of Portsmouth know of my feelings.......unfortunately there weren't enough people with any guts to speak their minds or were racist themselves.
When Haley did get the job, he led the Trojans to the 1994 district title and a 16-6 record........he compiled a 34-30 overall record........with the last 2 of his 3 years being winning seasons.
Our problems today do not relate to that time period.......goodness, it's been 17 years since that Hatcher left. Why bring something up that has nothing to do with today?.........Those days are over, never to return............
Between 1994-2002, Portsmouth appeared in at least the district final every year except 1995, 1996, and 1998. And garnered 3 district titles during that time, compiling a 123-74 overall record.......SLIGHTLY BELOW the overall winning pct. since 1916, of which I have compiled the yearly records since that year. In 1999 and 2001, Portsmouth posted outstanding marks of 18-5 and 19-5 respectively, and had a good 15-8 record in 2002.
Opinions based on facts have much more credibility than those opinions that have no facts to base them on.
What standard are people holding Portsmouth to? I don't care how good your program is.........GOING TO THE STATE IS A RARE EVENT!!! Just because Suboticki had enormous success in his 4 years at PHS, didn't mean that it was going to continue at that pace if he stayed. If he did indeed had stayed, that level of success......he was 94-11 in 4 years.......would not have continued.........it's crazy to think that it was going to.......sooner or later the talent was going to wane, no matter who the coach was, whether it be Suboticki or anybody else.
The last 7 years is where Portsmouth has really struggled........anybody who thinks that Portsmouth basketball went into a tailspin after Suboticki left town is not aware of the facts but have firm belief in their perceptions.
The FACTS are above.................GO TROJANS!!!

Re: North Adams vs Portsmouth
This game reminds me of last years Ironton/South Point Game. I agree with 85inside, North Adams better be prepared. This Portsmouth team is much better than they have showed all year. If they play as a team and are allowed to be physical, I'll take the Trojans. Any other combination, NA wins.
Good luck Trojans.

RiverRatTiger: Good to see you posting.......haven't seen you in a while, even at the Ironton games.......hope everything is going well with you. Maybe I'll see you at the Convo or somewhere along the way............
sparky: Don't know of the exact total of district runnerups for the Trojans, but from memory in recent history we were runnerup in 1975, 1979, 1984, 1986, 1997, 2000, and 2002. I do know there are some more runnerup appearances before 1975.

Re: North Adams vs Portsmouth
I didn't get to Portsmouth this year. I've seen you floating around a couple of times, but my 8 year old keeps me busy at games anymore. LOL. My 10 year run at the convo looks in doubt also, as far as the District Championships go. Bad weekend for me this year. But I should make it to the semi's. I'll hollar at ya.
Re: North Adams vs Portsmouth
Don't get to follow North Adams on a regular basis here in Vinton Conty Viking land, but Waverly will be my stop this Friday to see this game. The big win over Hillsboro opened some eyes across the area. Portsmouth is always a dangerous team and their record can be decieving because of a tough schedule. Can't wait to see this one.

Well since the Trojans beat my Falcons in the first round of the tournament I will get behind Portsmouth the rest of the way. Especially since you have a Minford boy on the coaching staff!!

Gold. and. Green 88 how did you finish during the regular season of over 200 picks. Thanks. Quit acting like your mom. lol
Not a lot of people outside of Seaman support your team on here. Try not to poke fun of those that do!
North Adams 73
Portsmouth 61
Winner to the regionals.
