Our Southeast Crew had the D2 finals this morning. If you are unfamiliar with the way the OHSAA assigns referees to the State Tournament--- our district gets 3 based on a proportion formula. And since we seem to always get 3 it makes sense they work together when they are here. Last year it was 3 different guys but they also had the D2 final (John Glenn v St V)

This year it was Kevin Schwartzel, Brian Phipps and Kyle Gilmore.

They called 24 fouls. 13 and 11. No one had more than 3 fouls

D4 Finals. Wellington 22-7 vs Lutheran East 19-9

Wellington looking for their 1st title. (3rd appearance and 1st final)

Lutheran East looking for their 2nd Title (2005 won 2-0 over Africentric in forfeit). Jim Liggins is an answer to a great trivia question from that 2005 game -// scored 42 in the title game (which is the record in D4) and Technically scored 40 more than his team did.

Halftime of D4

Wellington 18
Lutheran East 18

27 turnovers in the first half. (16 for Wellington)

Dustin Harder for Wellington tied a State record in the Semifinal win vs Lima Perry with 21 Rebounds. He ironically ties Dave Gray of Arcanum who had 21 rebounds vs Portsmouth Clay in 1969

Final

Lutheran East 43
Wellington 38

Wellington made a run at the end but couldn't overcome
26 Turnovers and 9-18 from the Foul Line and 1-11 from 3

Northeast Ohio has won both finals thus far and Private Schools are 2 for 2 as well.

At least The Wellington School does not have a long ride home and on a nice day like today --- the kids could walk home if they wanted.

Cleve VA St Joseph v St Bernard Roger Bacon

VA St Joes defeated the D2 champs St V 57-56 and the D4 Champs Lutheran East 68-66

They are making their 5th straight appearance in the finals and have won 2 and lost 2 of the previous 4. The State record for consecutive appearances is 6 (Cleveland East Tech 58-63). Their toughest game in the tournament thus far was their District Semi vs Beachwood (63-58)

They are looking for their 7th Title just like St V this morning.

Roger Bacon has won 2 Titles (82,02) and has been here 3 of the last 4 years.

Both of these teams lost to Lima Central Catholic in the State Tournament in 2014 and 2016. Roger Bacon lost to LCC in the semis and VA St. Joe lost to LCC in the finals

Have a question for you guys.. A friend and I have been going to the state tournament the last 3 years every game, how do you get the OHSAA pass to stay and eat after the game ? And how do you get the parking pass ?

Thanks in Advance.

Last game of the day.

So far today the Northeast corner of the state is 3-0

Private schools are 3 for 3.

1 of those 2 will be 4 for 4.

Moeller wins and Private Schools sweep but Cincy claims 1

Jackson wins and Northeast Ohio sweeps but the Public schools claim 1

I'm torn.

And since Moeller is an all boys school---where do they get their cheerleaders?

Deep thoughts at the end of the week.
