two thoughts here:
1) those who defend gun rights and fight ANY restrictions are making an emotional argument; you can't have an objective conversation when one party is using an emotional thesis.
2) it's called the Bully Pulpit (the Presidency) and EVERY President in the modern era has used people or props (Rose Garden anyone?) to bolster his point. EVERY President!

t!
Its not emotional when facts bear out that banning certain guns doesnt work. Look at Chicago one of the most strict gun control cities in America yet deaths from gun violence is in top 5 in country. Its called using reason. Advocates of gun control are trying to bend everyones emotions in order to get guns banned. No one calls for gun control till after someone gets shot. Thats using emotions over facts.

abuck76 wrote:Big Hit your quotes are wonderful, but irrelevant to this issue....The only weapons that they had were muskets, and they were talking about taking away ALL guns..............No one, absolutely no one is trying to take all guns away...........The SCOTUS decision you mention, that pallidin appropriately called you out on , does nothing more than make a handgun available in DC.........It leaves the door wide open for banning other weapons that even Scalia, mr. conservative himself, called unusual weapons ........SCOTUS ebbs and flows...........The Constitution is a living document.................The issue over military weapons in the hands of civilians is an issue that most people want changed.........It is called democracy........Banning all miltary weapons and multi round clips is not only logical but sensible............It will happen...Maybe not completely tommorrow, but another terrible incident will happen and people will demand change...........And change could come as simply as a change in the makeup of the SCOTUS.............I pray these changes happen quickly so no other parent has to feel like the parents of Newtown................ :12224
almostabuck,
Only you would call quotes from our founding fathers irrelevant.........
Granted the modern weapon of the day was a muzzle-loading, flintlock, black powder rifle. It was state of the art. The US population (good & evil) was approx. 4million, today the US population is approx. 311 million. Soooo 1 shot for every 4 million people, I would need a 77 round magazine just to keep pace.
Yes the SCOTUS decision is relevant as it supported the FACT that the 2nd amendment was directed to THE PEOPLE not the militia.

Now,, if you wish to address the root of the problem, and can be TOTALLY HONEST, if even for a very short time, you will have to look at the degradation of our society.
OOOOOH but Nooooo,,,, that would mean attacking the 1st amendment and the rebirth of censorship.
How many of these senseless killings do you think are traced back to movies, books, the internet, the media, and video games ????????
How many are by youth that have been placed on psychotropic drugs and can't differentiate fiction from reality??? Their parents feed these drugs to them and allow them to watch tv , play violent video games, or surf the net so they won't have to deal with them.....
I was amazed when I was informed by some high-school students on how to fabricate a bomb, from common household items, that they had found on the net.
Do a little research on MS-13, Bloods, Crips, Latin Kings, Vice Lords these are just a few and they are in Ohio.
Do you think they care what is legal and what is not???????

Since we are being totally honest I will tell you that I am petrified!!!!!!!!!!
I am petrified of the element of society that has no respect for human life...
I have been trained and am well versed with all of my weapons. I reload my own ammunition and strive for pinpoint accuracy.
I pray that the day will never come that I will be forced draw down on a fellow human being.
HOWEVER if ANYONE attempts to do serious harm to me or my family I WILL do what is necessary to eliminate the threat!!!!!!!!!!
I will not cower down in some corner, or hide my head in the sand and pretend that it can't happen to me.
What will you do Mr. ABUCK,,, and how successful do you feel you will be???????

"The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
- Thomas Jefferson (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria)

I love my Senators; Paul and Mitch McConnell!
Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul plans to introduce legislation in Congress soon nullifying the executive orders on guns announced by President Barack Obama on Wednesday, a source familiar with the plans confirmed to The Daily Caller.

The Republican legislator plans to reveal his plans for legislation during an appearance on Sean Hannity’s show on Fox News on Wednesday night, the source said.

Obama on Wednesday announced during a White House ceremony that he plans to initiate 23 executive actions meant to curb gun violence in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., massacre last year.

The news was first reported during the Fox News show “The Five” on Wednesday by anchor Eric Bolling.

“I’m told Sen. Rand Paul will introduce language within hours, within hours, to call for the nullification and prohibition of funding for the president’s executive actions announced today and possibly even using the federal courts to nullify and defund some of the things that he plans on doing,” Bolling said.

The Capitol Hill source told TheDC that Paul’s legislation is expected to do three things: nullify Obama’s executive orders, defund them and ask the Senate to file a court challenge to them. (RELATED: Rep. Stockman promises to ‘lead the fight’ against executive orders)

UPDATE: Appearing on Hannity, Paul said he’ll introduce the bill early next week. “In this bill, we will nullify anything the president does that smacks of legislation. And there are several of the executive orders that appear as if he’s writing new law. That cannot happen.”

“I’m afraid that President Obama may have this king complex sort of developing, and we’re going to make sure that doesn’t happen,” Paul said.

And eight-year-old? Seriously?
The president of the United States tweeted a picture of an 8-year-old's letter pleading for gun control to rally support for the initiatives he rolled out today at the White House.

"Dear President Obama," the letter reads. "I think there should be some changes in the law with guns. It's a free country but I recommend there needs be a limit with guns. Please don't let people own machine guns or other powerful guns like that. I think there should be a good reason to get a gun. I think there should be a limit about how many guns a person can own. We should learn from what happened at Sandy Hook es. I feel really bad about what just happened."

The letter is signed, "Grant," who says he's 8 years old

"P.S," the letter concludes, "I know you're doing your best."

He can issue executive orders (you need to look up what that means) but he can't make laws.

Issue orders, make laws, whatever...... just don't overlook the possibility (and probability) of the following.......

What's necessary and proper for him ain't necessarily necessary and proper for me. People are getting tired of being "ordered" around by the gov't.

Sheriffs in more than one state have already said that they aren't going to enforce his "executive orders".

Actually , the SCOTUS decision on D.C. only narrowly decided (5-4) that it was O.K. to have a handgun for self defense. It answered NO other question. Many questions are open for action against guns. And that narrow decision only affected D. C. -- no other state.
