Worst grass fields?

Post by greygoose »

With talks of grass vs turf and so many teams going to the turf, got me to thinking how many other teams need to look into it or need to make some changes to their field?? I know Piketon tried to resod their field earlier in the year but waiting to long and it didn't work out for them this year but should be fine going into next year. Prior to Waverly getting the new turf the field was downright awful and dangerous in the rain especially. Eastern Pike was another grass field I seen this year that needs a lot of attention. Minford was another one but looks like they're in the works for raising money on turf field. Another program that has had success recently but I'm not sure the shape of the field is Unioto. Just curious if there's any other grass fields out there that is in need of an overhaul or would be a good candidate for turf??

Gallia actually has grass. Fairland is a mud pit in between 10 yard patches of grass

Memorial Field was a bit better this year, but typically 10 yard line to 10 yard line is mud by week 4-6 depending on the year and weather throughout.

I remember my old Uncle Ace Rutter used to be talking with my cousin Buford T Rutter and they would always say, "Hey if there is grass on the field, play ball!"

I dont remember them ever talking about who had the worst field they ever played on but maybe they could give some insight if they see this.

Of the fields I've played on or seen. Memorial Field is by far the worst.

Gallias field this year horrible. From 2014-2017 the field was actually pretty god it did not fold on field and the turf actually to deep roots. But there’s in fairland are not good

Wellston is aweful. Not sure most years if it's going to be grass or a dirt patch. One year it looked like an old house was sitting on the middle logo for years and it was removed and you could see the outline of it lol, sidelines only have 3 yards from field to fence for teams to stand, then teams get flagged for sideline warning....How you gonna call that when there's barely any sidelines? I remember before the fence was up they had little wooden posts and a boy from NY got hit near the sidelines and flew into the post and was out for the rest of the game.

Memorial Field and there really isn't even anyone really close. 15+ years ago it was unplayable after Week 5 and wasn't fit for a pigsty by Week 10.

Then Fairland.

Then everyone else.

Old Field in MacArthur was the worst field ever made gallia look nice. VintonCounty had limestone glass syringes gravel it was so hard no sod. It had holes dug in it potholes. Wellston actually always had a nice field but we got it week 1. Jackson and Marietta always had the nicest professional grass fields. it still is very nice shape but they use to put a fortune in it but not so much these days.
