FCS actually has a 24 team playoff. From SBNation(excerpt):

The FCS playoffs, on the other hand, feature a field of 24 teams, who then play in a single-elimination tournament through the championship game. Ten of the 13 conferences participate in the playoff race, with the 10 conference champions receiving automatic bids into the tournament — those teams also get a first-round bye. Depending on whether a team has a bye, there are four or five wins required to come away with the title.

https://www.sbnation.com/college-footba ... cket-dates

In theory, a team might have to win 5 games to win the championship. FCS schools play only eleven regular season games and their are no conference championship games. The FBS Power 5 schools would have a problem with a shortened regular season and no CCG. Lost revenue.

I think an eight team p!ayoff is workable with four mega conference, the CCG s becoming the first round of the playoffs. Even at that, lopsided games are likely but that would eliminate some, but not all of the we should have been "in" debates.

Clemson plays a very weak schedule AND conference. Honestly , who in the heck does Clemson have to get up for week in and week out ?? Duke? FSU? Wake forest? Yea they are good teams but they aren’t killers. Bama plays citadel? A tough game against a few conference opponents?? CFP has to change things up or all you will ever see is this title matchup with these two teams. And it’s already starting to show. How many times now has this matchup been ?!!! Come on now. Somethings gotta change. Rest assure when the national title game is on. I’ll be flipping over there to see the score not watch and breakdown the game. Very disappointed college football fan this morning. Not. Only because the real team was left out. But the results of last night of leaving them out. Those teams weren’t even close to being comparable.
Here we go again!! Every year several are on here crying the Bucks got screwed. Just a piece of advice...don't come on here pleading your case when you were DISMANTLED by a very mediocre Purdue team, it makes you look uneducated and quite honestly foolish.

As for the NC game I feel it is a toss up. I will be pulling for Clemson but feel Bama is probably a bit better. The best 2 teams are playing and both would embarrass OSU.

This game being played with a quarter to half inch of rain during the day with winds but declining to below 16mph. With rains continuing in the evening. This changes the game some. Because the field has not been the best surface with moisture around. So players who can not make the mistake of not staying on their feet. Giving up or not making a big play. Then turnovers. Either team can win this game. As well as if some of the cheap shots that Alabama players made last week can led to them giving the game away.

As to the expanded playoffs it is fine as it is now. The Bowls system and all that goes on with the teams off the field leading up to the games. Bowls are a money maker for the cities and sponsors. I am a big OSU fan but around the 6th or 7th game many on here were saying that OSU did not deserve to be in the top 20. I responded if they are not top 10 which school do you put in the top 10. This was not a good year for great teams. Which you can also have other years. This can help to create where casual fans are not so into the games. Because now football is taking away from basketball games. As well as taking away from high school basketball games being played on Saturday football game days.

You comment about few "great teams" during the 2018 regular season is spot on. The NY6 bowl games showed parity for the most part. Ohio State could beat anybody outside of the top two or conversely struggle with any team in the top 20.

Of course that and you would have to think the TV cash cow is not infinite. Despite our expanded playoff fantasies, money alone will be the deciding factor.

I don't claim to be a peerless pigskin prognosticator but, I think I'll take Clemson by 3.

Why??? Just a gut feeling. And boy could I be very wrong.
An overtime game....don't think so...but then again I could be wrong as well. As long as it's a good game and is NOT decided by a review, I'm happy.

Bama going for it...4th and 1....first down going wildcat on the play. Bama called for false start....2nd down from the 6. Short pass to the 3....3rd and goal...and end of quarter. 14-13 Clemson

Bama has made mistakes in all 3 phases so far.
