It was a fairly solid first time out on the season for the Buckeyes, as they traveled to Colorado Springs, Colorado for the Rocky Mountain Open.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Senior Alec Yoder took two individual titles on Saturday night at the Cadet West Gymnasium on the parallel bars and pommel horse as the No. 6 Ohio State University men’s gymnastics team got the 2019 season underway at the Rocky Mountain Open on Saturday. The Buckeyes took fourth place with a team score of 398.500. No. 1 Oklahoma took first place with a 411.150 score.

Yoder’s 14.55 on the pommel pushed the captain past Minnesota’s Shane Wiskus, who nipped at Alec’s heels with a 14.10. On the parallel bars, Yoder tallied a 14.85 to earn the top spot.

Fifteen Buckeyes competed at the RMO, including five making their regular season debuts in the Scarlet and Gray. Ohio State got things underway on the rings with a score of 67.400 and followed that with scores of 71.150 (vault), 68.250 (parallel bars), 62.650 (high bar), 65.200 (floor) and 63.650 (pommel).

Angel Leon just missed out on a podium finish in his debut, notching a 13.75 on the rings, .15 away from third place. Max Andryuhschenko was the only Buckeye competing in the all-around on Saturday, taking sixth place with a 77.100 score.

The Buckeyes have next weekend off before heading to Norman for a clash with No. 1 Oklahoma.

Regardless of the final score, the Buckeyes knew it would be a tough one as they traveled to Norman, to take on the #1 ranked and defending national champion Oklahoma Sooners. They ultimately fell to Oklahoma, 423.95 - 395.40.

OSU's Alex Yoder notched their only event victory on the night in the pommel with a score of 14.750.

Ohio State's next competition will be next Saturday as they travel to Michigan for a dual with the Wolverines.

The Buckeyes notched a season-best score of 402.700 on the road in Ann Arbor on Saturday, but ultimately fell to #3 Michigan who scored a total of 413.900. Alec Yoder once again dominated in his specialty, the pommel horse, scoring a 14.900, which is the second highest score in the nation this season. Sean Neighbarger also had a stellar performance, finishing second in both the vault and the floor.

Several of the Buckeyes will compete individually in the Winter Cup in Las Vegas the 15th through the 17th. The rest of the team does not compete as a whole again until they host the Arnold Challenge on March 2nd.

Competing in the Arnold Challenge in Columbus on Saturday, the Buckeyes earned a massive victory over #6 Penn State, 413.150 - 409.000.

The Buckeyes took first place on the pommel as Alec Yoder scored a 14.800 in his specialty. Jesse Tyndall used the Arnold Challenge as his playground, taking first place on the parallel bars with a 14.600 and tallying a 14.000 on the high bar. Angel Leon continues to shine for the Bucks, scoring a 14.100 on the floor, 13.950 on the rings and the parallel bars, and a 13.850 on the high bar. Max Andryushchenko tied the highest score of the day on the rings with a 14.200, while Alex Wilson took first place on the vault with a 14.650.

Next up, Ohio State will host a tri-meet against Minnesota and Nebraska on Friday.

The Buckeyes were home at St. John Arena for the first time this year on Friday night, as they competed in a tri-meet with #5 Minnesota and #8 Nebraska. Minnesota took home the win with a 406.300, followed by OSU with a 405.550 and finishing in third was Nebraska with a 402.300. Alec Yoder claimed the only two individual event victories on the night for the Buckeyes, as he claimed titles on the pommel horse and the parallel bars.

Next up, Ohio State will head west to take on Iowa in a dual on Saturday.

It was a tough loss this weekend for the Buckeyes, as they fell to #9 Iowa on the road in Iowa City, 400.650 - 396.400. Although the Buckeyes took first place finishes in 5 events, including the top three finishers in the pommel horse, the Hawkeyes depth proved too much for OSU on the night.

Next up, Ohio State will finish up the regular season next Sunday as they host Illinois.

The 9th ranked Buckeyes picked up a massive home victory to close out the regular season, as they defeated #4 Illinois, 406.600 - 404.000. OSU trailed heading into the final rotation of the night, enter Alec Yoder, the best gymnast in the nation, stepped up to the high bar, scoring a massive total, and secured a Buckeye victory.

Next up, Ohio State will travel to Iowa for the Big Ten Championships on April 5 and 6.

Competing in the premier conference championship in the country, the Buckeyes put up a solid showing, but ended the weekend in a 6th place finish out of 7 schools. They tallied a team score of 401.900. Penn State won the title with a 410.350, followed by Illinois with a 410.100.

The top performers for OSU were Alec Yoder, who finished runner-up in the pommel horse, while Trevor Cummings finished 4th in the same event. Alex Wilson finished 7th in the rings. Sean Neighbarger finished 4th in the vault event. Alec Yoder then tied for 6th in the parallel bars, as well as tied for 9th in the high bars.

Ohio State will now find out their post-season fate tomorrow, as the NCAA Regional qualifiers are announced.

The Buckeyes have qualified as a team to the national pre-qualifier. They will compete in the second session of action on April 19. In that session they will compete against Oklahoma, Illinois, Penn State, Iowa, Ohio State, Army and individuals from William & Mary, Illinois-Chicago. To qualify for the championship on the 20th, they have to finish in the top three as a team or individually.

Although the team competition didn't go as the Buckeyes wanted, they scored a 399.754 to finish 5th out of 6 teams in their qualifying session, and 9th out of the 12 overall teams in the qualifying session. OSU qualified at least one individual in each event to the national championships on Saturday. Three Buckeyes secured spots in the floor event, which included Jesse Tyndall, Alec Yoder and Joey Bonanno. On the pommel horse, both Alec Yoder and Trevor Cummings earned spots in the Saturday championships. Max Andryushchenko locked down a spot in the rings competition, Joey Bonanno secured a spot in the vault, and Alex Yoder earned two more spots in the parallel bars and the high bar.

The national championships were a massive success for the Buckeyes, even though they didn't compete as a team, individual competition went very well! Alec Yoder claimed the national title in the pommel horse, as well as an All-American honor (6th place) in the parallel bars, it was also the 10th All-American honor in this 4 year career.

Trevor Cummings also earned an All-American honor in the pommel horse, as he finished 4th overall.
