Kentucky has this rule for sure and I think West Virginia as well... Running clock only helps so much.art_vandelay wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 8:53 pm
OHSAA needs a mercy rule for soccer. Game should be stopped once a team goes up by more than 10 goals in second half.*

North Adams only has this kind of behavior in Boys soccer. The other coaches at NA don't allow this.

The running clock helps in other sports, but it isn’t like the clock stops often in soccer, so it really doesn’t get shortened much at all.Mr. Official wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 11:09 amKentucky has this rule for sure and I think West Virginia as well... Yeah, no real reason for Burg to keep North Adams on their schedule going forward. If it is an ongoing problem for North Adams, they'll start having trouble finding local teams to fill their non-conference schedule.*rxburgfan wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 9:19 amThere is a systemic problem at NA. No reason for this many cards regularly. And a good indicator is they had to clear the stands if NA fans. Apple did fall too far...No reason for a HS to allow this behavior. But it must be ok with the AD. So the Superintendent needs to be involved.
Re: Re: Boys Soccer scores 9/7 thru 9/12/20
Someone did suggest a mercy rule several years ago at the District meeting. It was voted against by several coaches. They stated that they didn't want to teach their kids to quit. I think there should be a rule, but apparently others don't feel the same. But I agree that 20 goals is too much.art_vandelay wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 3:14 pmThat's the point of the mercy rule. Game ends immediately once a team goes up 10 goals. Eliminates bs scores of 20-1. Only way you'd have to play keep-away is if your team got a 9-goal lead and you decide you just want your team to get the extra game experience/practice instead of going for the game-ending 10th goal.transplant wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 2:35 pm I agree there should be some sort of mercy rule in the second half to prevent this type of thing from happening. But at the same time, what is worse, getting beat that bad or the other team just playing "keep away" the whole half and kids getting frustrated and might not touch the ball all half? At least this way they could work on kick offs? No real good way to play it if you ask me. But def agree that 20 goals is ridiculous. Hopefully they at least had to make a minimum number of passes or reversed the field X amount of times before a shot. If they kept starters in and kept attacking, that's wrong. What was the score at half? I have not kept up with soccer since I stopped playing, how new of a program is Wellston?
I'm still surprised that this hasn't become a rule with OHSAA as most other high school sports have some type of mercy rule. Somebody in coaches' association should be pushing for it as these type of scores do not accomplish anything for all teams involved*

I get not wanting to quit, but no one is learning anything in a blowout game like that. You get better in practice anyway, not the games. If there would be a mercy rule, what number would you all like to see the game end at?
Re: Re: Boys Soccer scores 9/7 thru 9/12/20
I would think a 10 goal differential, at or after halftime would be a good place to start. If coaches would manage their teams a little better and not try to let players pad their stats in these kind of games, we wouldn't be having this conversation.transplant wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 11:03 am I get not wanting to quit, but no one is learning anything in a blowout game like that. I agree, 10 would be a good place to start. Also agree that managing players better would help. As a player, I remember scoring a few quick goals on teams and then either being moved to defense to let others play offense that don't normally get to play there. Then like you said, once up 10 after half, call it.
Re: Boys Soccer scores 9/7 thru 9/12/20
Agree with you. But for whatever reason boys soccer is terrible with it. And it against everyone. Their card total should get the attention of the OHSAA.

What are the cards usually for? Rough/dirty plays? Mouthing officials and other players?

I see, so a little bit of everything? They are a newer soccer program right? Do they just not understand the way soccer is played and the rules or what? Do they have any type of youth program?
Re: Re: Boys Soccer scores 9/7 thru 9/12/20
They have been around 15-20 years. I believe all the Adams Co. schools all play in the same youth league.transplant wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 9:05 am I see, so a little bit of everything? Oh, ok, I thought they were a newer program. I haven't followed high school soccer real close lately. Just seems odd to act this way.
