Players quitting the program before the season ends
If you have athletes quit the program that started the final 8 games of your regular season do you still offer them their Varsity letter and certificate? Their choice, no disciplinary reasoning was involved.

Do you have anything in an athletic handbook or school handbook about earning a school letter? If not, you should. If the school board adopts the handbook, its policy and will stand if pressed by the parent or student.

They quit after starting the final 8 games?? Or are you saying they quit after 8 games?? Sounds confusing because why would someone quit if they started the final 8 games wouldn't that mean the season was over? Either way if they put the time in and they earned the letter, then they earned the letterFirst and Goal wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 10:57 am If you have athletes quit the program that started the final 8 games of your regular season do you still offer them their Varsity letter and certificate? I wouldn’t even give them credit for playing the sport. If you choose not to finish the season, you quit and for all intents and purposes weren’t on the team.

If they quit why would they even care about the letter?

Because when you are 40 that Letter will mean everything.
Probably should worry more about Why the player quit than a Letter. JMO

The AD is unaware of any policy in students or athletic handbooks. The athlete played weeks 3 thru week 10, almost every play on offense. The player missed 2 days of practice week 10 and week 11 then quit. None were due to illness or family emergencies. This player is also a senior.

Yep. Regardless of what any handbook says, if you quit before season ended, you shouldn't be eligible for a letter/ring/award/etc. regardless of how many games you played or started.*Ironman92 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 6:23 pmNo chance.First and Goal wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 10:57 am If you have athletes quit the program that started the final 8 games of your regular season do you still offer them their Varsity letter and certificate? Re: Players quitting the program before the season ends
Interesting. It could be due to some circumstances that no one is aware about. Mental health? Or just plain burnout. Whatever the reason to just up and quit is a rise for concern, especially after being a consistent contributor. I hope the HC did his duty to follow up and check on the kid, its bigger than football and a varsity letter.First and Goal wrote: ↑Thu Dec 01, 2022 9:10 am The AD is unaware of any policy in students or athletic handbooks. If a kid quit at Matewan, we wouldnt give him his letter. Finsihing the season should be part of the dealio. But if it doesnt say that in the handbook, you might be stuck.
Y'all are just gonna have to prove that!

My boy done earned 7 varsity letters in football at Racine. Aint no way he woulda ever quit early. he like them there letters so much he kept playin after graduation. Heck if he can get in shape he might even play again this fall.

Doesn’t matter he’ll just quit again. Once a quitter always a quitter. But give him a trophy anyway.Wings Teaford wrote: ↑Thu Dec 01, 2022 11:05 am My boy done earned 7 varsity letters in football at Racine. Re: Players quitting the program before the season ends
In this particular situation, was there only one player that quit, or was it more than one player?

Re: Players quitting the program before the season ends
Just one player that feels obligated he deserves something for not finishing what was started.
Re: Players quitting the program before the season ends
Thank you. If he would have had a good or valid reason for deciding to quit, he probably would have been awarded his letter, otherwise probably not.First and Goal wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 7:24 am Just one player that feels obligated he deserves something for not finishing what was started.
Re: Players quitting the program before the season ends
Who cares about the letter. He shouldn’t be eligible to compete in any winter sport
Re: Players quitting the program before the season ends
He deserves nothing because that's what he earned, nothing.
