Uh oh, kirtland taking on another MAC believe that’s sort of been their Achilles heal. Should be a really good game let’s go with the MAC in this one.

Great matchup, a lot of us folks were predicting these two meeting in the title game early in the season. This may be the hardest hitting physical type of game of the 7 being played next weekend, don't think either team scores over 17 and whoever has the last possession will be driving for the winning pts.

The MAC is nothing short of excellence from top to bottom. Here’s just for State Championships for football:

Minster: 1989, 2014, and 2017

Coldwater: 2005, 2007, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2020

Marion Local: 2000, 2001, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2022

St. Henry: 1990, 1992, 1994, 1995, 2004, and 2006

Versailles: 1990, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1998, 2003, and 2021

Delphos St. John’s: 1997, 1998, 1999, 2005, 2008, and 2010

New Bremen: 2020 and 2022

Fort Recovery: 2015

Anna: 2019

If my math is correct, that’s 46 State Championships just in football and they’ve only been a conference since 1973. That’s almost a State Championship per year since the founding of the conference. They might be the only conference in North American football history to have 3 teams win a state championship in the same year in separate divisions.

No doubt. Unbelievable the success.

That said, Versailles won most of those titles before joining the MAC. But given that all of these schools are in the same geographical area, the question is: what happened around 1990 that started this winning trend? Also, what happened around 2000 to take this trend to a whole new level?

Pre-1990, these schools were good; Versailles and Burg has some epic battles. But they weren’t nearly as good as Ironton and on par with Burg. Now, they are on a different level.

So again, what changed at these schools to cause that shift?

Just curious. Does the MAC have any member schools that have not won a state football championship?

They have over 150 state titles as a conference. Sooooooo many Volleyball and Track state titles too. Girls.... Boys.... it doesn't matter. There needs to be a 30 for 30 on the conference.

J.O.B.S., and income the footprint of that conference all ranks in the top 3rd in Ohio in personal income, household income, and low unemployment.

Versailles biggest offensive lineman is 220 and Kirtland’s is 205…….. Ironton and Wheelersburg should be taking notes! No fat boys out there!

And players fundamentally sound! Can’t be small on the OL with poor technique and skill.

Nothing fancy. About 4 to 5 basic plays over and over.

Watching now.

Man you can't say enough good things about Leverde and Kirtland. These kids just simply outwork and outhustle and outgrit other teams. The kids are humble hard workers. Just a beautiful thing to watch.

Culture Culture Culture. Ironton and Burg I'm willing to bet also have more obese fans/parents & kids in their community than Kirtland. Culture is so crucial man.

Yes. Leverde focuses on executing the fundamentals better than everyone else. It's nothing mysterious.
