All of these teams have some outstanding individual athletes. This meet will come down to which team has the most depth.

The shot and discus will be built the first week in March. The equipment and supplies have already been purchased and the contractor has been hired to do the work.

The first meet at the new facility will be a quad meet on March 25. I believe there's a tri meet scheduled for April 25. NY is also hosting the 12 team TVC Championships on May 13 and May 15. I think Coach Kline is working on a couple of middle school meets as well.

The long jump, high jump and pole vault areas are all covered with synthetic material (same as the track). The facility is BEAUTIFUL!

Don't forget, the 2nd Annual Buckeye Bash will be held on Saturday, February 9 at NY. Get the prize list and purchase your ticket here: http://www.nybuckeyebash.com

As of now, the plan is to put the shot put inside the fence on the visitors side. The discus is planned to be put out near the softball field. The construction of the new junior high school may alter these plans slightly.

Sounds great. Can't wait to see the new facility.

blarge,

The last time I ran on N-Y's track was in 1976 on the coal sinders they had spread all over the track. I remember it was a quad meet with Wellston, N-Y, Corning Miller and I think Glouster Trimble. We won the meet. We had a 440 event that we took all 4 slots for points. It was neck and neck against our fastest runner and N-Y's runner and the N-Y's runner fell down. Man he was all scraped up from those coal sinders. He started to get up and the Golden Rocket runner hurdled him and clipped the N-Y's runners head with his cleets ....then our 4th place runner passed him and we won all the points you could gather in the 440. We all went over to the N-Y guy to help him...he was all bloody from where he fell and then his head was bleeding from being clipped by the 3rd place runner. I felt sorry for the guy. If memory serves me right, he was there QB on the N-Y Football Team that we defeated in the fall of 75. I am not sure though. :-D

Sounds like you all have a state of the art track now. :-D

Back in the good old days :!: :-D

I think the transition from yards to meters was done between my Freshman and Sophomore years.
I remember some meets where the "440" wasn't even ran in lanes...You could cut in on the back stretch! That was wild.

Orange and Brown if you go on http://www.throwfarther.com there is something that might be helpful that you can use in converting a kids standing throw to the range of what their full throw should be, might be helpful in setting some goals. The closer they are to the predicted upper range of distance the better the technique is, if they are not near it means they have the strength to throw it but the technique is not what it should be. I found it very interesting. Also if you go to http://www.baumspage.com you can find last years Districts and Regionals results to give you a ball park figure of what she will have to throw to be able to advance.

James from Jackson is a heck of a thrower. But, good luck to the Athens Throwers! I look for Brandon Follrod and David Lou to have good seaons.
