Dead Deer Find - What Up With This? Graphic Photo Warning
Today I took my dog out walking in the woods near a state park and after a while, I saw him sniffing at something and he wouldn't leave it. I finally walked over there before he rolled in it or started eating it and when I do..I look down and I see a couple deer head..then a few more..I count them and there are 10 in all. Nothing else with them, no body, no paws and no entrails, just the head whacked off right behind the head almost like they were ripped off though, not clean cuts
anyone else know what that could be about?

Yeah but why wouldn't they bother the heads too then? you'd expect them to have at least been scattered. The way it appeared, it look as if they had been in a box and dumped out. Three of them were so close in the pile I had to separate them to count them. Some were very young too, very small heads.
There was a lot of meat still attached to the heads, the heads were also in very good condition, the eyes still were clear so they couldn't have been dead for long. I think I'll contact the fish and wildlife dept on Monday and report it but I won't claim it was the Mothman....
then again, some might just want to be able to continue to feed their pet possums and might have poached to get the deer for free feed?

I would definitely contact someone, like your local DNR agent. That's freaky. Sounds like someone who processes deer on their own that dumped the heads to get rid of them. Probably someone that also kills way above the limit, too. Thank goodness it wasn't around my house or that beast of a dog of mine would have dragged them all in to the back porch. I'm used to an occasional leg or two but ten heads would have been a shocker when I opened the door.
