What a sad day for the Ironton community.

I always spoke to Coy at the ball games. He would usually pose for a photo... and he always had that big smile on his face. I will miss that firm handshake and those wonderful conversations about his playing days.

I got to meet him at an Ironton game and he was signing programs for people. Seemed very nice and down to earth. Sorry to hear the news.

I had the pleasure to know Coy...and he was a wonderful man...my son met him for the first time last year at an ironton game and he talked to my son about what it took to be a good lineman...He really encouraged him and went on to ask when he would be playing his next ballgame...he showed up that day and watched the game...he was #79 and my son wore #79...which became a topic for the two...my son was very proud to wear that jersey after knowing that it was the Coy's number...it was really special...He was a great one...not only for what he did in football...he cared about people...

I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Bacon at Ohio River Valley JCF, and what a class act he was. A great guy that will greatly be missed.

Nice article on a great man. I met him in the early 90's when he moved next door to me by Central school. I got to talk to him and his wife many times and they were just down to earth great people. I remember at least once a year he would have a cook out in his back yard and you would see some of his old football buddies there, Rosie Greer and some others would be there and he would invite us over. We didn't go because we didn't want to impose on him and his friends get togather.

He will be sadly missed by many and the community has lost a hero.

Prayers go out to the Bacon family.

Always a Browns fan but Godspeed to Mr. Bacon. I remember him as a strong agent of mayhem in the Bengals defense. Didn't he play for the Rams for awhile?

He played for the Los Angeles Rams from 1968-72, when he made the first of his three Pro Bowls. He played with members of the Rams' famous "Fearsome Foursome" defensive line, whose original lineup consisted of Deacon Jones, Merlin Olsen, Rosey Grier and Lamar Lundy.

After Lundy retired in 1970, Bacon moved in at right defensive end for the next three years.

My grandmother got me and my brother his autograph when he came into Anderson's grocery store. He played for the Rams at that time.

He would visit Sharon Baptist Church occasionally and Pastor Steve always referred to him as his bodyguard.

Great man!!
