School Closings. *Wednesday, 10:10 PM*

Post by oak hill71 »

I know most people look these up or hear them on the radio or whatever. Personally I am signed up with WSAZ to send me a text message whenever Oak Hill is delayed/closed.

But anyway please post School Delays or Cancellations here.

So far Adams County - Ohi Valley Schools are teh only ones under a delay in Ohio, as far as WSAZ is reporting.

If it feels like it is below 0 degrees or sometimes even 10 for that matter, the schools will usually give a delay for the temperatures to warm up, at least Oak Hill usually does.

I like them for the reason that schools are only 5 "Snow" Days a year, but as many 2 Hour Delays, so there fore I can still sleep in to a point.

This is how Oak Hill's 2 Hour Delay schedule is setup:

1st Period: 30 Minutes
4th Period: 30 Minutes - Lunch Period for 6th & 7th Grades.
5th Period: 30 Minutes - Lunch Period for 8th & 9th Grades.
6th Period: 30 Minutes - Luinch Period for 10th - 12th Grade.
2nd Period: 29 Minutes
3rd Period: 28 Minutes
7th Period: 28 Minutes
8th Period: 27 Minutes
9th Period: 27 Minutes

"Delays" don't count against a school for the 185 day count required, and don't have to be "made up" according to State BOE requirements and standards.
Seriously cold temps alone [never mind road conditions] are indeed a danger, especially to young elementary students exposed outside either walking to school or waiting for a bus for extended periods of time.
Also - "delayed start times" allow time to get bus engines started and warmed up, or figure out if road/weather conditions are improving or deteriorating, and make the final decision regarding safety of travel.
Don't give me this "back in my day" stuff - a whole lot of things have changed since then - rules/regulations, laws/requirements, size and distance of school system areas, and legal liabilities/responsibilities. Would any of you consider it "reasonable" now for your kids to have to walk a mile or more to get to school no matter the weather?

Nelsonville-York is on a 2 hour delay and we cannot afford to miss anymore days due to construction
I image we are because our electric was off for 12 hours it came back on around 1:30 and they would have needed to warm the schools back up etc. my house got down to 57 by the time it came back on this morning. Needless to say it was COLD in here! NO BACK UP HEAT!

All districts in Muskingum County were under a 2 hour delay this morning. 4 degrees above just outside of Zanesville at 8:30 when my son got on the bus. Not sure what the wind chill factor was....BUT IT WAS COLD!

We in AC/OV go on a delay due to the cold weather quite a bit. There is only one bus trip made (K-12) in the morning and afternoon. Many schools run seperate trips for the lower grades, but due to the length of our routes that is not possible. Many students get on the bus before 6:30 so to stand there in the cold and dark if not a good thing for kindergarten kids to have to do.
