Re: WK 1: Fort Frye @ Marietta
Question for the Marietta residents. Does the Marietta Times even cover Tiger Football anymore ? I'm seeing quite a bit of Williamstown football coverage but sadly not very much on the Tigers. Is the Times owned by the Parkersburg newspaper nowadays ? So much West Virginia coverage in the Times nowa...

Re: WK 1: Fort Frye @ Marietta
Well if Marietta cannot compete with Williamstown anymore, why would it be any different against a better program in Fort Frye ? This would have been unthinkable 40 years ago but here we are. Rooting hard for my Tigers but not too optimistic.

Re: Marietta High Football 2023
My thoughts are I wish we had that schedule back in 1983 : ) Seriously though, I really hope the best for the program. Can they be somewhat competitive with Fort Frye ? I can't believe I am saying that : ). Who would have thought that 40 years ago ? Also ,I have been away from the area for so many y...

Re: Marietta football - What's the deal ?
Unfortunately, the toughest job for a new coach is still within the confines of Washington County, the Belpre Golden Eagles. They only had 16 players 9 thru 12 and some of the freshmen had never played football before. Finished 0-9 and was outscored 469-16. Board and admin made the wrong hire and i...

Re: Marietta football - What's the deal ?
Honestly I cannot think of a more challenging job in the state to try to build and build a winner. So many negatives currently.

Re: Marietta football - What's the deal ?
They should have built a high school years ago on Harmar Hill where Fairview School is instead of in that ravine. There was more land by Fairview that they could have used that maybe would have been big enough for athletic facilities which eventually turned into apartments in the later 80's I think....

Re: Marietta football - What's the deal ?
I think that’s the biggest question that many people have. Myself included in that thinking. But I think it makes sense to at least do the due diligence to help best answer that question. I don’t know of any other parcels of property either within or just outside the city limits that would be feasi...

Re: A Look At The 2022 OHSAA State Football Championship Attendance Numbers...That Remain Flat
The title games really need to be in Columbus. The only concern to me would be crime at night around the old Crew stadium. More security should improve that though I would think. I went to state title games at the Shoe in 2015 and really enjoyed it. I think there were about 15 thousand there. Some c...

Re: Marietta football - What's the deal ?
Marietta really doesn’t have a choice but to seek a new home for football as MC is pushing us to do just that. A new turf field and track behind the high school would benefit numerous programs, not just football. I have my own concerns as to whether we can fully execute a plan of this nature but I ...

Re: Marietta football - What's the deal ?
Didn’t you say in prior posts that you were on the 83 team? I was a sophomore who also dressed varsity on Friday night’s for that team. So much has changed since that time. At times, it’s hard to know where to even start. Yes I was a senior on the 83 team. Not giving away a name for obvious reasons...

Re: Marietta football - What's the deal ?
The Tiger football program went through a series of head coaching changes which led to no continuity in the program. The staff from grades 7-12 has been a revolving door from 2005 - present. Administration leadership made many mistakes, but none bigger than leaving the SEOAL ( 100 percent Southeast...

Re: Marietta football - What's the deal ?
Again. Will the administration at Marietta always be satisfied with being bad at football ? Nothing at all against the current coach but they really need a program builder. This would seem to be the ultimate challenge for anyone daring to be great.

Re: Marietta football - What's the deal ?
I may be completely out of the loop on this, but does Marietta still play their home games at Marietta College? I thought that back in the SEOL days that they did. I believe both MHS and Marietta College have played at Don Drumm since it opened and still too. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. B...

Re: Marietta football - What's the deal ?
Let me clarify, I was a sophomore on the 83 team when the varsity went 6-3-1. Coaching staff then was made up of hard nose, football men who were longtime mainstays of the program which transferred down to the players. Coaches Spence, Becker, Hudson, Pape, O’Dell and Burke. Within two years, all of...

Re: Marietta football - What's the deal ?
Good posts so far. I think everyone is correct in their assessments as there isn't just one reason MHS football continues to lose. A couple things I will add: - Marietta has about half the enrollment it had in the COL days. As much as I'd love to see Marietta compete with the big boys, the schedule...
