Re: Marietta football - What's the deal ?

There is not a big enough parcel of flat land not in a flood zone currently available in Marietta to even build their own stadium that I'm aware of. Even the high school was built in a ravine.

Yes, they still do.
They pay the college way too much money to play there.
Maybe a dumb question? Do they have their own football field at their high school?

Yes. There is a field behind the high school gym.

Re: Marietta football - What's the deal ?

Really great posts on here, I'll add and reiterate..... The Coach is a really nice and good guy, and yes his wife is in admin. Very few schools will keep a coach this long who has never won. Every year we are seemingly young and rebuilding. A few years back we scheduled "down" to smaller ...

Re: Marietta football - What's the deal ?

Marietta only had 1 winning season in the 80's and 2 in the 90's, so it's been over 40 years since they were an 'average' program (after the 70's) and the schedules have gotten easier over those years..last game against Upper Arlington was 1980. Going to take alot to get it turned around. Soccer is...

Re: Marietta football - What's the deal ?

Good posts so far. I think everyone is correct in their assessments as there isn't just one reason MHS football continues to lose. A couple things I will add: - Marietta has about half the enrollment it had in the COL days. As much as I'd love to see Marietta compete with the big boys, the schedule...

Re: Marietta football - What's the deal ?

Back in the day, Marietta was part of the old COL and played teams like Upper Arlington, Lancaster, Newark and Grove City. I think Marietta took pride in playing those schools and I think you are right that for whatever reason, the kids do not participate much like they used to. I also think they ne...

Marietta football - What's the deal ?

I used to play for Marietta back in the early 80's and we were a good solid program that played much better competition. I know the Marietta population has dropped about 2000 since then. The last few years they cannot even compete with the much smaller schools they now play. I mean fellow Washington...
