Re: Minford 25-26 season

Few things… Coach Michael is great and the things he’s doing/wants to do is exactly what needs to happen. With Caudill getting a better NIL deal at Ironton, the likelihood of them winning more than 3-4 games is extremely unlikely. This isn’t a fault of the coach. The depth, the talent, the size etc...

Caudill from Minford is a big loss for the falcons. Would have immediately seen the field for Minford. Unsure what that translates to at Ironton this year, but would expect he develops into a difference maker for them.

Re: Minford 25-26 season

How involved has the coach been in the lower levels? He’s around during the season. I do wonder if he’s on board with 3/4 grade going back to tackle instead of flag. He would be the first coach I know of that wants tackle that early if he’s on board with that. If he’s not, then shame on the youth f...

Re: Minford 25-26 season

Anyone know the status of the turf project? Last I saw it was well over half way to the goal but that was two years ago. At some point do larger donors ask for their money back? Maybe if the accrue enough interest they’ll cross the finish line? Well curiosity got the best of me. According to the Oh...

Re: Minford 25-26 season

Thats good to hear. A friend of mine told me he took a teaching position at East. I can't imagine why Minford would not try and keep him in the district there, especially with the low numbers last year. I just want to see them do well. East is closer than Fairland which I think is where he was. I h...

Re: Shawnee State Football

I think that’s good for the university. Also likely makes the dream a little close for a handful of guys from the area. I’d say in a given year there’s on average 2-3 that could play at that level.

Makes basketball more attractive too.

Yes, coach Jordan Michael enters year two as HC.

Unsure if any assistant coaches have changed or not.

Re: Minford 25-26 season

1 to 5 is quite a jump but I’m hearing good things this year. I could see anywhere from 1 to 5 wins this year depending on a myriad of factors.

Re: Youth Leagues Tackle v. Flag

2 hours may be hyperbole, but youth tackle practices can have quite a bit of standing around. I guess my point or question is if tackle earlier will decrease numbers. I think high school success is largely based on numbers and the higher numbers you start with at the youth level the more likely you ...

Re: Youth Leagues Tackle v. Flag

My beef with competitive tackle football is practices are 1.5-2 hours long and half of it ends up being the whole team standing around learning/walking through plays. It can end up being very boring for a lot of kids. Very true. I have to wonder about participation numbers. It seemed that there was...

Youth Leagues Tackle v. Flag

What ages are doing tackle and flag for your schools?

Minford was flag K-2 and 3-4 last year. This year moving to 8 man tackle in 3-4. From what I remember last year everyone in the area was flag through 4th grade. Is the tide turning back to early tackle?

Re: OHSAA to go to 12 playoff teams per Region

Have to give credit where it’s due. It was never going to go back to 8 teams, but this is much better than 16. Acknowledging the occasional outlier, if you’re not in the top 12 you have no business in the playoffs. So if I read that right, the higher seed hosts the first three rounds? Home field adv...

Re: OVC Looking for more teams

Just some random thoughts: Would the OVC entertain adding schools from WV? Wayne, Tolsia? St. Joe if they do in fact start football? Would the OVC and SOC ever consider merger? And there is the curious case of Ironton football. Is there a scenario where they want back in to the OVC? As much as we w...

Re: SOC- OVC

If the SOC could pick off two of the three out of Rock Hill, South Point, and Fairland they could force a full SOC OVC merger. That would be the best outcome for all in my opinion.

Re: Minford coaching job

Any idea on deadline applications? Unless someone in the know or close decides to hop on good old seops and post, our best chance for information is probably someone sitting in the parking lot with binoculars on interview day. None of these are happening. Anyone interested would be able to do a Sun...

Re: Minford coaching job

Travis was the varsity assistant. He coached at East, West, assistant under Ater at Burg when they were in the regional finals back to back years. He has been in the game for quite awhile. If he applies, then this is the guy. If I remember right, he was an assistant at Minford under John Strickland...

Re: Minford coaching job

Definitely a hot destination. Coming off of the final 4 run, while losing a lot of talent there still is plenty of it in minford. Have been hearing of two alumni’s giving it a thought of putting in for the job. Kyle Pertueset and Matthew Gullett What about the Burg assistant that is a Falcon alumni...

Re: Minford coaching job

Have to think Minford alum Kyle Pertuset at least gives it some consideration. He’s only a year in at Lynchburg-Clay after a few years at Cambridge, but it’s a good job that may not come open for several years depending on who ends up in the role. I have to think the opportunity to bring in all of y...
