Re: ironton quarterback???
I'm about 99.9% sure Ethan Preston will be Ironton's starting qb against the Burg. Tommy Waginger is a very capable qb also and may very well be called upon at times to play qb. I would'nt be at all surprised either to see both on the field at the same time. Both are good athletes with decent speed,...

Re: Ironton Football 2009
I agree pleasanttiger, I have never known the 9th graders to do pt with the varsity team. I suppose that could have changed though. I don't know what kind of talent is on that freshman team but their scores have been impressive through the years and I've heard good things. There have'nt been many fr...

Re: Ironton Football 2009
41 is not a bad number, wish it were more though. Btw, does that include the boys that might be playing in the baseball senior league state tournament? I don't know for sure how many may be on that team but it may account for a few more bodies. Either way, can't wait to watch some football.

Re: Ironton Football 2009
While I could'nt agree more that the blocking and tackling needs to improve I can think of a few other deficiences Ironton needs to improve upon. This year I would love to see a more disciplined team with better leadership on the field. I would also like to see a tougher, more physical team with bet...

Sounds great Biggdowgg, looking forward to some more great pictures of this beautiful facility. Also thanks for keeping us from around the area informed with what is going on there, much appreciated.

Re: Portsmouth Athletic Complex Pictures
Dang thats a beautiful school. I hope Irontons new school will look as nice. I have not seen it for awhile, perhaps someone with access can post some pics of it. The last time I saw it I was somewhat disappointed in its appearance but of course final verdict wont be in until its complete. Also, glad...

Re: Portsmouth Athletic Complex Pictures
The new facilities sound fantastic. That sounds exactly like what I would hope such a proud program would do for its athletes. Perhaps when possible one of you close to the Portsmouth program can provide us with some pictures of those new digs. Being from Ironton I love and appreciate good football ...

Re: Portsmouth Athletic Complex Pictures
I was wondering where the locker room facilities will be located at this stadium? Are they in the fieldhouse? Also what type of facilities are they, for home and visitor alike. Are there weightlifting and training facilities there? If possible I would love to see some pictures of those facilities. L...

Re: Local players playing in college for the 2009 season
I believe there are a number of Ironton kids playing at Kentucky Christian. I think Bub Johnson, Felipe Beach, Goeff White and Chance Freeman are there this up coming season. Also I think Dustin Harman from Coal Grove is at Pikeville College. Drew Kuehne is at Maryville College and K.C. Christian is...

Re: 2009 Ironton Classic
Man that is one impressive list of schools. Should be one heck of a classic. I could'nt make it last year but I'm sure I will this year. With a list of programs like this no sportsfan in the tri state should miss the talent that will be on hand. You just don't get to see players and programs going h...

Re: Ironton Fighting TIGERS 2009
I think the potential is there for a fairly good season. I like the experience and size on the offensive line. As coach will tell you it all starts up front. Ofcourse the offensive backfield is a different story. There is little varsity experience there but they do have some talent that will have to...

Re: Portsmouth Athletic Complex Pictures
Place is shaping up very well. I love some of the views from the stands. Biggdowg, does that offer stand for everyone who fills up those visitors stands? I feel fairly confident Ironton wont have any problem filling up that visitor seating. If it is around 1,500, I think Ironton could easily double ...

Re: Burg Vs. Ironton
Hard to say who the key players will be but both teams return some good athletes. I know the Burg will return Lang along with Shankwiler and those tall ends. I have no idea about what kind of line they'll have though. Ironton on the other hand loses their entire backfield except for Wetsel. I'town w...

Ironton remains DIV
As already pointed out the OHSAA division breakdowns are out and Ironton will remain in DIV. The Burg was still a DV. I believe the only change I saw locally was Jackson moving back down to DIII. After the last few realignments saw DIV starting at about 185 boys or so. This year it dropped to 177. D...

Re: 1999 Ironton Championship Game
I've heard numerous reasons for going for that first down, bottom line is its the coaches decision. While hindsight is 20/20 it was a bad decision no matter what way you slice it. Having seen Ironton play under coach Lutz for almost 30 years if that same situation happened 100 times he'd punt every ...

Re: Portsmouth Athletic Complex Pictures
Place looks great thus far, cant wait to get up there to see a game. I hope the stands are fairly close to the field. I'm old and dont see to well so I prefer to be closer to the action. Besides I think it makes it more exciting for fans to be close enough to not only see the action more clearly but...

Re: Ironton @ Chillicothe 1/20
I agree with ya hitchbone, I do believe I'town will recover. It still seems as though I'town is still struggling to find that good cohesivness. If everyone stays healthy they'll get there, hopefully about the time playoffs start. Thats always a good time to peak. I'm just glad Chilli and I'town are ...
