Re: Indoor practice facilities?
What area are you looking in Browns30? There are a few places within 20-30 minutes of Portsmouth.

Re: Jr. High Softball report
Thanks Dan. My daughter is an 8th grader currently and we are starting to look at camps this winter and are going to go to a few over the next couple of months. Last question. Besides a pitcher and catcher do programs recruit for specific positions or do they recruit the most talented athlete and te...

Re: Jr. High Softball report
In general a players ride should be taken care the summer/ fall before her senior year if the kid is a NAIA/ D2/ D3 player. That's what I was wondering. Since the girl is playing a spring sport she would only be a couple months away from graduation therefore she should already know by then where sh...

Dan
Not talkinking Div I or II but when does most NAIA or Div III schools start recruiting. Would a school like Shawnee still be looking for girls in the 2017 class or have they started looking at 2018 and 2019. Do NAIA schools look at 2020 grads already?

Re: Jr. High Softball report
Definitely catch some games this year & see all the talent. Like to see what a D1 8th grader looks like. What positions do these girls play? You made me go back through to see if I stated they were D1 players. If your talking about the two that were mentioned the burg kid is a catcher and the l...

Re: Jr. High Softball report
Would be interesting to see a team of the best 12 in the area & see if they could actually compete with the elite teams. I think they could compete but not sure they would win a lot over the course of a full tournament. Offensively and defensively they could match up with those teams but I thin...

Re: Jr. High Softball report
You seem very knowledgeable of area softball SOS. Not sure I would claim to be knowledgeable in softball in this area. But I would say in this age group I am familiar with the teams and girls. My daughter is in this age group so she has played with or against most of the girls in this age group for...

Re: Jr. High Softball report
There are a few kids on three or four of those local travel teams that could play for some of the top teams in the state but have chosen not too for whatever reasons. But that is what hurts teams in this area. I can count 8 "travel" teams in Scioto and Greenup Counties (all within 20-30 mi...

Re: Jr. High Softball report
I believe that are other girls that are really good players that have not been mentioned yet either that are further east from us but still in Southeastern Ohio. You have a 7th Grader from Coal Grove that is a pitcher and would compete as one of the top 7th grade pitchers in the area. She play for t...

Re: Jr. High Softball report
The Hughes girl from Oak Hill plays for Ohio Lasers and the Sturgill girl from Burg played for Ohio Hawks this past summer. I believe she is playing for a different team this coming season but not sure who. She has played for a few different teams including Crush and Ohio Thunder. There is another g...

Re: Jr. High Softball report
She plays travel ball with a bunch of those girls too I believe. Hate to hear that for Ironton. They could be really down this year by their standards. What travel squads do all of these kids play for? Most of those girls play for Ky Magic. Although I have heard that four or five have left the team...

Re: Jr. High Softball report
Couldn't remember the names for them but, Oak Hill is loaded and I believe girls from other programs are even coming to Oak Hill now to be part of it. That's a very good sign. I know a angel loses it's wings any time you don't put a Burg team at the top of the list but unless Burg gets talent trans...

Re: Jr. High Softball report
Coal Grove will have a nice team also but their year is probably next year. Most of the talent on that team will be 7th graders this year. The 7th grade pitcher from Coal Grove plays for the Outlaws.

Re: Jr. High Softball report
It's surprising to me that the top two players hasnt been mentioned. 8th grade from burg- sturgill and 7th or 8th grade from oak hill- hughes. coldhardtruth if you are watch as much travel ball as you claim you would know that. I agree. Both play on top travel teams and should be top players in the...

Portsmouth - 7th grader Perry(pitcher/infield) Clay - 8th grader Cochran (shortstop/pitcher)and the 7th grade pitcher. Valley - their pitcher named Faith (can't think of her last name) Oak Hill - (all of them lol) Green - Jenkins (pitcher/catcher) Kimbler (Shortstop/Pitcher) Carver (1st Base) Iront...

Re: Jr. High Softball report
Perhaps you are not as familiar with other players in this area as you think. Given the nature of my job I'm pretty involved with most of them and see a lot of them in the travel season. I trust my credentials more than your dad goggles. I guess we should call Clay "young" more than "...

Re: Jr. High Softball report
I don't know if I would say Clay is weak. I don't believe they had a Jr. High team last year but if they are able to field a team this season they should be reasonable. They have a few girls that have a few years experience at travel ball level. Although she is younger they will have what I would co...

Re: Jr. High Softball report
I know Greenup County isn't Southeastern Ohio but they are still local and played several teams in Ohio last year. They were made up of all 6th and 7th graders last year except for two 8th graders which one was a Catcher and the other a sub player. So the only spot not returning would be a Catcher w...

Re: Softball Summer Leagues
I don't know where you are located at but Championship Fastpitch in Ashland Ky has a summer a league. They do 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U & 18U. The league starts somtime in June. There is also a fall league that someone has done in South Shore, Ky the last couple years. I think they have a 10U and a...
