Re: Oak Hill '09

You have 8 in the box against 6 at the most 7 blockers. You don't need double teams. Watch how Johnstown runs the 4-4 and then you'll understand.

Re: Oak Hill '09

In base 4-4 you will have a 7 3 1 5 techniques. Your Mike backer is split between the 3 and the center, the Will is split between the 1 and the tackle. The 3 has B gap, 1 has A, Mike has A , Will has B, the Olb's cover the overhang or have pass coverage, the 7 and 5 have outside contain. You want to...

Re: Oak Hill '09

Forcing a double team is the complete opposite thing that you want to happen in a 4-4

If this is true then the next couple of years will be interesting.

Re: The Official "Who's Next at Jackson Thread"

Western Brown was a 7 seed in Region 8 at 10-0 this year. They played a majority of D3 and D4 teams (which would be the case with Jackson in the TVC). So I wouldn't go as far as saying that 9-1 or 8-2 gets you in for sure.

Re: The Official "Who's Next at Jackson Thread"

21-7 is by no means a blowout, but it was arguably Jackson's best team ever. The point I was making is that playing in the TVC will never get a D2 or D3 school ready to play the top teams in Ohio in the playoffs. If the goal is to run up great regular season records then the TVC would be the way to ...

Re: The Official "Who's Next at Jackson Thread"

The only Columbus team that I remember Jackson playing in the playoffs was DeSales. That was a good game for awhile, but it wasn't really close at the end. The regular season Columbus team that I remember Jackson playing was Franklin Heights who was absolutely horrible.

Re: Oak Hill '09

What is the problem with the 4-4 defense? Johnstown-Monroe has been using it for the last few years and they have one of the best defenses in the region year after year.

Re: The Official "Who's Next at Jackson Thread"

Joining the TVC may be good for building a great regular season record, but it will in no way prepare the Jackson teams for the playoffs. When I coached in the Columbus area we would play teams from Southeastern Ohio in the playoffs and they were just over matched. You need great competition in orde...

Re: The Official "Who's Next at Jackson Thread"

Good luck to whoever gets the job. You will have some of the finest facilities in the state, tradition, and great community support. If you put in the work, great things can be done. I am a little disheartened when I hear people make excuses saying that Jackson lacks athletes. If you just wait on gr...

Re: The Official "Who's Next at Jackson Thread"

I was with Coach Mays during the walkthrough of the facilities. Very impressive to say the least. I just hope Jackson hires a guy that can get that program to level it needs to be.

Re: The Official "Who's Next at Jackson Thread"

The word from the Super intendent was that they would have two English positions but would probably not fill both. I don't know what other positions will be open. He also said that they wouldn't create a position for the new coach.

No rumor. He interviewed yesterday and received a call this morning from the AD. It's down to four now I guess.

Re: The Official "Who's Next at Jackson Thread"

Just found out that Coach Mays was not offered the jackson job. They said that they want someone with more head coaching experience. I would expect an announcement in the next few days about who the new coach is. I think Jackson missed the boat on this one.

Re: The Official "Who's Next at Jackson Thread"

Also, if Jackson plays smaller division schools they are going to have a much harder time making the playoffs.

Re: The Official "Who's Next at Jackson Thread"

Mays has an interview Tuesday at 4:30. I'm riding over with him to show him the fine city of Jackson. Too bad the Shake Shoppe is no longer around, I would have liked to get a Jackson county veal. I let you all know how things go.
