Re: Valley 7-1(1-1) @ Wheelersburg 7-1(2-0)

Thanks, CB. The bylaws state 'the next sport' or something like that. I'm sure the rule has in mind the next season; didn't know if this situation had ever emerged since that rule was put in place.

Re: Valley 7-1(1-1) @ Wheelersburg 7-1(2-0)

Valley's big tight end was ejected at his last soccer game. Does that mean he is ineligible to play football on Friday?

Re: IRONTON vs WHEELERSBURG

I'm sure freshmen have played, but its been a while. Certainly pre-Miller. A better question is when was the last time a freshman suited up for a varsity game. Ironton allows one or two every now and then. I don't think one has suited up for the Burg since probably the early 80's, when I believe the...

He will also have some competition. I count 57 freshmen on the roster on the website (last season? next season?). Hope he sticks it out. His daddy played BBall at Tiffin I believe.

Has this been verified yet? I have talked to two Board members separately about this and neither knew what I was talking about.

Re: Burg and Green combining?

My point exactly, 4th n Goal. The only way to physically consolidate would be to add on to the existing buildings; throwing money at a time when our deficit is dire doesn't seem like the smartest political decision to me.

Re: Burg and Green combining?

Can't find any info on a transcript from his visit in Marietta. It would be odd, though, that he has any plans for schools near Marietta already but has barely talked about consolidation any where else. All I can find is this small section in a blog from Ted Strickland, so it may contain political b...

Re: SHL/SOC Football

I have all the answers. SHL schools are part of that county-wide school district and will not allow one school to have football without the others. Manchester seceeded from it and now does what it wants. Eastern and western struggle to field the teamz they have nkw and have no desire to field footba...

Re: Burg and Green combining?

I believe Governor-Elect is speaking of consolidating administrations of districts, not the actual physical districts. Building more buildings at this point - and asking for money to do it - is political suicide (especially from a Republican) and he knows it. The only talk of physical consolidations...

Re: Athens county football

O & B has a point that those two districts have serious problems. Not for sure what their answer is, though. Consolidation is always an easy answer to discuss but doesn't eliminate every problem. Consolidating an entire county is much different than consolidating two 1,000 student districts that...

Re: Athens county football

Good point, Heavy D. It is entertaining to discuss, but not realistic to actually do. Even two high schools would be enormous - and cost-creating. In the late 60's, consolidation was much easier and made more sense (financially speaking). Take Nelsonville-York, for example. High school-wise, you bas...

Re: Athens county football

The state government is not going to waste the millions and millions it just spent in the last 15 years building schools...by consolidating the actual BUILDINGS and having to BUILD MORE BUILDINGS. What Governor-Elect Kasich surely is planning - and communicating poorly, I might add - is the consolid...

Re: Belpre vs. Warren no more!

I think Kasich is considering only consolidating administration, school boards, etc. Physically consolidating the districts would be ridiculous considering the billions just spent on building new buildings, thus negating the "economy of scale" argument.

Re: Wheelersburg (1-2) @ Fairland (1-2)

wobycat speaks the truth. Go to where the best small school football is played - the MAC - and you will not find football below the fifth grade. In fact, you will be hard-pressed to find football below seventh grade (St. Henry, for one, starts in seventh grade)...and they seem to be doing just fine....

How did a county pay for a high school football stadium? Does the county own it? That would be unprecedented.
