Re: River Valley Coach Resigns -- for real?
The Board is most likely limited due to the "established practice" of incorporating members of the certified bargaining unit as coaching staff. Although not a language item, it would take a strong constitution on the part of the Board to go outside without creating or replacing a teaching ...

Re: River Valley Coach Resigns -- for real?
Those of us who have watched this for a while might say that what is needed is a culture change more so than a coaching change. You would have to think long and hard about taking the position without some real commitment from the administration. It would make you crazy. They need to grasp the severi...

Re: River Valley Coach Resigns -- for real?
Perhaps it is time to give Hammond a chance at Friday nights.
I do not know the circumstances of Jared's resignation but I applaud him for going out with class. It shows character.

Re: Coach Phil davis.
Over the years of running the chains at RV, I can truthfully say that Mr. Davis is a gentleman and possibly the best sideline coach that I have seen. He never berates his players, effectively uses his assistants and wins games. Although I do not know him personally, I would wager that his behavior o...

I was under the impression that at one time, Vinton County was way ahead of the rest.

Re: What does Free Lunch have to do with athletics?
Free and reduced lunch numbers are one of the main factors used to determine state-aid to districts in Ohio. It is actually advantageous for a district to have a high percentage from the administration's standpoint. Once they get to a certain point, some actually shoot for 100%. ie: The higher the n...

Re: River Valley joins TVC, who is next?
I would like to personally thank the members of the TVC for forgetting about RV's past behavior toward the conference and accepting them into the fold. At its formation, RV was dead-set on being in the SEOAL and with the re-splitting of the district learned quickly that they had made the first of a ...

Re: River Valley School Board to Vote in Dec on joining TVC
I think RV athletics would have been better off had the Raiders joined the TVC after the school district was created. RV was voted into the TVC back in the early 90s when the school was created, but RV opted to join the SEOAL instead to be in the same league as Gallia Academy. When RV left the SEOA...

Re: Week 10: South Point (1-8; 0-4) @ River Valley (1-8; 0-4
Back in the day, running "bells", as they used to be called, was not only a disciplinary tool for the coaches but in phys. ed. and sometimes within the school itself. There used to be a bell about 3/4 of the way up the hill and that marked the top of the circuit. I wonder whatever happened...

Re: Week 9: OVC - Rock Hill (1-7; 1-2) @ River Valley (1-7;
I wasn't knocking Jordan Hill in my post. He did a great job last year. Actually, blu nd gray, I think RV went 4-1 non conf. then finished 2-3 in OVC play that year (02). I could be wrong though. If I remember right, that season, RV had a very skilled QB protected by a large line. Two of the key li...

Re: Week 9: OVC - Rock Hill (1-7; 1-2) @ River Valley (1-7;
I am not gauging success by how little we lose but for the first time in a long time I was encouraged by what I saw Friday night from RV. Some of the passing and receiving was fantastic. Physical size on the line once again played a role in giving the QB time to work but when he got them off, the re...

Re: Week 9: OVC - Rock Hill (1-7; 1-2) @ River Valley (1-7;
Having been the veteran of many seasons at RV as a parent, booster, fan and helper, I think that the worst problem is numbers. Most of these boys get very little, if any, time at the JV level and rarely is there enough participation to field a freshman team. By necessity, they are thrown into the mi...

I went by the field last night on the way home and there was a game going on. I assume that means that they will be able to play the game at RV. If not, I would appreciate it if someone in the know would post differently.

Infield sand
The dry weather is allowing us to run some infield mix for fall repairs. We have mined through the entire area that contained the raw material that we use to make the sand. We are currently running about 250 tons for two fields in WV. We do have a limited amount of raw material in stockpile (probabl...

Re: OVC: River Valley (1-4) @ Fairland (1-4)
Some are sure changing their tone on this thread now that there is a face on the team. As I have stated many times in the past, there is no more dedicated player than there is at RV. I went through this with my son for 4 years and it is very difficult. One of these days, it may pay off but in the me...

Earthmover Tire
We just blew a tire on a rock truck and I thought that someone might like it to train linemen with. It may be too big. It is a 23.5R25 radial about 5' tall and 2' wide. I do not know what it weighs but it is heavy. We can load it on a trailer easily. It is free and if you want it, send me a PM, othe...

If I remember correctly, GA had the same helmet design as SG (in blue and white) in the late 70's or early 80's. I may be wrong but I don't think so.

Re: River Valley @ South Gallia
Great football atmosphere last night. The crowd was very large and it was a good time. Seating was the only issue. They had may as well call this thing a game and reap the gate benefits during the regular season. RV scared me in the beginning with a slow defensive start. They showed a little more va...

Re: Mike Bartrum
I have had the pleasure of being on the sidelines with most of the coaches in the area at one time or another as a member of RV's chain crew. There are all types of coaching styles, some good, some bad. I can tell you without reservation that Coach Chancey is one of the best. He holds his emotions i...
