Re: Williamstown State Champs

It's more than even bus expense and time. When a Columbus school, or even one of the distant SEOAL schools, visit Marietta they may bring a couple hundred fans. When Parkersburg South, Parkersburg, and I'm guessing Williamstown visit, they bring thousands. That difference in gate revenue is huge in ...

Re: Marietta Football - My thoughts from the cheap seats

A very passionate and accurate post. We have good coaches, the local media covers MHS football very well, and we seem to have skill players every year. On a purely football standpoint I think our biggest on field problem is, as you mentioned, we get pushed around. We are not a physically dominant te...

Marietta goes to the Watkins Memorial in Columbus next week. He'll run against Carbajal and other D-1 state level competitors on a fast course.

Re: Warren INV.

Warren is a tough course and the humidity this morning slowed the times.

Emily Skidmore is in state shape right now, and Halle Richards might be there as well.

Re: Broughton Invite Saturday in Marietta

Marietta Times story on the races... m A very tough early season test with the hills and the hot weather. Congrats to Jillian Pawloski of Fort Frye who cut 3:40 off her time from last year and finished in the top ten in a pretty good field. Mark Wiefrich is going to have a good year if Saturday was ...

Warren was very deep last year when they ran at open meets. They will be right in the mix if not the favorites.

Re: Marietta early leader in All-Sports Trophy race

Your points are very good, but I still think that any criteria that uses on the field/court performances is a better tool than a coin toss.

Re: Marietta early leader in All-Sports Trophy race

runhallerun is absolutely right. A coin flip or drawing straws as a first tie breaker is just wrong. Have a pre-determined tie breaker based on division record, total points(runs), point differential, or anything that reflects on the actual competition that took place. I'd rather they take total tea...

Anyone know why Wiefrich of Marietta isn't running the 1600? The boys 1600 and 3200 races have the potential to be memorable races.

Re: An Early Look at the SEOAL: The 2008 Marietta Tigers

Marietta will have to be much improved on defense to compete next year, as they gave up an average of over 50 points a game in the last half of the season.

I hope fans will give Andy time to build his program.

Re: 4-29 @ Eastern HS

Good point and thanks....I looked it up and you are right that Skidmore beat Tornes by 8 seconds in the 3200 at state last year. Early in the year I saw Skidmore run 12:20 something at Meadowbrook and Tornes go 11:49 at Parkersburg and made a false comparison based on times. It would have been great...

Wow! That must of been some race. Does anyone have the times? Before this I was thinking that Tornes was the best distance runner in SE Ohio.

Re: Marietta Football 2008

Thanks, hopefully they'll pick a coach and have the board approve it this month. This late in the year it just seems like it will be hard to get a coach and a full staff in place and get a program up and running for the fall. There's lots of rumors in a small town, but does anyone have any insight b...

Great analysis, noreply66.

Let's hope everyone stays (gets) healthy and look forward to one of the best SEOAL meets in years. A state qualifying team or two, several individuals, and some conference records.
