Re: Problems with games at the Convo
Pol Pot, you make some very good points but I agree with some posters that OU has not done a very good job at all in recruiting local students and athletes. With that being said, having the tournament there is great for OU, the City of Athens, SE Ohio and in particular the young men and women who ge...

Steely Dan, somehow I just knew that Rev. Rod would raise the jack. He has made a career of it.

Re: Waterford vs Harvest Prep- Regional Finals
steely dan, I loved your post. Harvest Prep is a "controlled" DIV school. They built absolutely nothing whatsoever from the bottom up-they bring in athletes. They can be any division they want; can decide who to bring in from wherever they want; if they need a point guard, they can go get ...

Re: American legion state baseball tournament
Bottom line: Up side of having tourney in Athens: Legion tourney brings in $400,000 to area; brings in potential students and athletes; tremendous good will to university and most importantly honors the American Legion and its great veterans who clearly deserve every honor bestowed upon them and who...

Re: American legion state baseball tournament
Someone enlighten me. Has OU issued a press release or will OU ever issue a press release to address this situation and what, in their opinion, caused it to occur or was it swept under the rug? Will we have to revisit it in about 20 years to find out what happened on "Unsolved Mysteries" o...

Re: American legion state baseball tournament
Maybe I missed it but is any spokesperson from OU ever going to say what caused this to happen? I have read the legion statements which very specifically thanked everyone but the OU Athletic Department. This is bad for OU, Athens and southeast Ohio. Again, why did this happen or will we never hear O...

Re: American legion state baseball tournament
Is Ohio University ever going to issue a statement as to what happened to cause them to lose this great event or will it be buried with their men's track and field program?

Re: American legion state baseball tournament
It is an absolute shame about the state legion tournament but it should come as an surprise to no one. I had previously posted on a football thread that there is a rapidly growing feeling of discontment among area high school officials about the lack of interest that OU has in area students let alon...

Re: Any D-1 Offers for Logan's Patrick Angle?
Orange and Brown-You are right. I got a little carried away and apologize for my post. Nonetheless, I just think that they need to pay a little bit more attention to students and athletes in their own backyard and feel that they missed out on a good one in Pat. With that being said, OU is a fine sch...

Re: Mayo investigation could affect Ironton's runner-up status
Game playing needs to stop involving recruiting. OHHSAA needs to crack down. Bengalfan76's suggestion is a great first place to start. The 50% rule is a joke and if someone does what OJ does, they should sit out a year because the transfer does in fact violate the 50% rule. The AAU "recruiting&...

Re: Mayo investigation could affect Ironton's runner-up status
Well said 1974 Viking! NCH definitely should be stripped of their title. If you have to cheat to win, you should not be rewarded. This requires absolutely no thought process. It is a given. I agree with you about OJ and Lebron in terms of class, but Akron St. Vincent St. Mary's also has huge advanta...

Re: Interesting read in the Wooster paper.(Public vs Private)
Perhaps the accumulate total of boys of all the public school districts that the private school kid lives in should be added and they should have to play in that division. After all, they have virtually the whole state to choose from while public schools have what they have in their district. I real...

Re: Mayo investigation could affect Ironton's runner-up status
Very good points eagle73 and bengalfan76. The 50% rule makes absolutely no sense at all to me. If kids transfer to the school of two of their AAU teammates, they should be ineligible. That would stop the nonsense.

Re: Mayo investigation could affect Ironton's runner-up status
Again, how do three players of Walker, Ellis and Mayo's caliber happen to all end up at the same time at North College Hill? Or a bunch or foreign exchange students happen to end up at Dayton Christian? Just pure luck, coincidence or happenstance or did the magic of AAU basketball and/or recruiting ...

Re: Mayo investigation could affect Ironton's runner-up status
The sadder thing is that no one did anything back then on the state level (namely the OHHSAA) to discourage the migration of athletes from everywhere to places like North College Hill. The OHHSAA has done a lot better since then to police this, but they have a long way to go. Again, high school bask...

Re: Wheelersburg's Drew Spradlin
I hope that they at least tried to recruit him. They miss the boat on many local athletes. More importantly, I think that they do very, very little to encourage local students to attend there. For a local university, I am not sure that they care if local students attend there or not. I hear that com...

Re: Public vs. Private - one more time
gahs4ever: I 100% agree with you that school funding has everything to do with the debate. Pay for play is beginning to devastate some of poorer school districts in Ohio. When it costs rural school districts more to put their students at the front doors of their schools than any other school distric...

Re: Public vs. Private - one more time
gahs4ever Good post. I agree with a lot of what you said. School funding is a huge issue and the major reason school levies get voted down is that it is so dependent on property taxes. With that being said, when school districts in our area get a bunch of transfers who more often than not only "...
