Re: Public vs. Private - one more time
Toast-Great post. The current funding system of Ohio public schools in my opinion is and has been the single biggest problem in Ohio. For years, the issue was completely ignored by state government. Then the Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional. The legislature still ignored the problem and no...

Re: Any D-1 Offers for Logan's Patrick Angle?
Pat Angle is an athlete through and through and an even better kid. There is no reason whatsoever that schools are not recruiting him to play QB.

Ironman 92-I love your posts. You are very informative, interesting and fair. But if the TVC is so much weaker than the SEOAL, then why in the world would Jackson have petitioned to join it?

Re: Hillsboro Basketball
This is sad for Hillsboro and the boy (a fine basketball program with quality kids and coaches I may add). The even sadder thing is that if Hillsboro had been a private school, this probably would not have been an issue.

Re: Should all Private schools be forced to at least be in D4?
Anyway you cut it, private schools have an absolute advantage over public schools in sports. Can you recruit student-athletes? Private, yes. Public, no. Are you limited to kids in your school district who can play sports? Public yes. Private no. Can you select who attends your school from an academi...

Re: SHOT CLOCK-WHAT DO YOU THINK
If I have trouble sleeping at night, I watch an NBA game and wake up and watch the last two minutes because I haven't missed a thing. The beautiful thing about high school basketball is that it is pure for the most part-coaching makes a huge difference there-it doesn't much in the NBA. Teams with ta...

Re: RIO GRANDE FOOTBALL POLL
Ohio Dominican did it. The program has greatly added to their visibility, school and enrollment. Having a school like Rio Grande that offers football would be great for student-athletes,particularly local ones. It would have a great cost initially, but I believe that it would pay for itself in the l...

Re: Should all Private schools be forced to at least be in D4?
Great examples eagle 73. I would be willing to bet that taking kids (athletes or not) described in your five examples is not something Columbus Desales (a DIII school) is faced with on a regular basis. If so, they choose not to enroll most of them. However, every DIII or whatever public school has t...

Re: Is RIO getting a football team?
Ohio Dominican added football and it has greatly added to their school. Football and Rio Grande would be a good fit. It would ultimately increase enrollment and those students who stay on campus. With that being said, the current economy does not bode well for it.

Re: Should all Private schools be forced to at least be in D4?
Siderman: Great post. The private schools have virtually no OHHSAA rules that apply to them, can control what division they are in, who plays for them and can recruit and get kids from wherever they want. The OHHSAA rules are enforced primarily only against public schools, public schools cannot cont...

Re: Should all Private schools be forced to at least be in D4?
The biggest problem with private schools is that they can control what division they are in by limiting enrollment or increasing enrollment as they deem fit. Thus, if they want to be DIV, they can be DIV. If they want to be DIII, they can be. They can also control who attends their schools and the c...

You could not find two more quality young men than Clay and Jeremy. They will both be very successful in whatever they do in life. I wish them both a speedy recovery and hopefully they will soon be back on the hardwood.

Re: TVC-Ohio 2009
I would agree. The Spartans should be very good. Lawson is an excellent running back and Chapman is a fine quarterback. I look for the Spartans to make some noise in the TVC. Their kids play hard and they always have an excellent game plan.

Re: Private Religious school drawing from Large Cities.
Unless an athlete physically moves (some geographical boundary would have to be drawn around the private school), he or she should have to sit out a year whether the transfer is to a public or private school. Likewise, the OHHSAA should make any athlete wanting to transfer have the transfer approved...

Re: Private Religious school drawing from Large Cities.
JohnKnight: Thanks for the reference to Bob Pond's article. It is very well done and informative. It is far past time for the OHHSAA to review its policies on private schools and transfers in general. Like school funding, where Ohio has drug their feet for over a decade, it does not appear that anyo...

It sounds like Athens has another quality team. They are always well-coached with quality kids and parents and their facilities are top-notch. I wish them the best of luck this year with both their Senior and Junior Teams. It is great to have a feeder system like they do. It helps all of our area At...

Tobias-As regards to by-law 11, this is an absolutely ridiculous by-law. It almost guarantees that if you cheat that you can get away with it, because someone only has 7 weeks to catch you. If you can strip people of Olympic gold medals years after the fact or strip NCAA teams of titles way after th...
