Congratulations to Southern and good luck from here on out! Not only is this a top-notch baseball program, but I look for their basketball program to take off under Coach Caldwell.

Re: Meigs American Legion post 128 Tryouts
I thought Coach Haislop and before that Coach Stewart did a great job with this team in getting it to where it is. Will it continue to be as strong this year and in future years under the new leadership of Coach Woods who seems to be a great guy from all accounts?

Re: What exactly is it that the OHHSAA does?
gah4ever: You make some very good points. You are correct that no one ever talks about kids who transfer for academic reasons which is really the major part of what school is about. I also understand that school board members seldom get asked questions about what is really important-academic issues,...

Re: What exactly is it that the OHHSAA does?
tartan blue-if the superintendents have no say if this rule passes, do you really believe the OHHSAA will ever turn down a transfer since they do not investigate anything now? Really, it is not my intent to bash the OHHSAA. They do many wonderful things and have many wonderful programs. However, the...

Re: What exactly is it that the OHHSAA does?
gahs4ever: I am not naive and agree with you that they do a lot of things and that sports would suffer in Ohio without the OHHSAA. I understand how difficult this issue is and so does Commissioner Ross by his recent comments. However, the transfer/recruiting thing is totally out of control. They do ...

What exactly is it that the OHHSAA does?
I know that they schedule tournaments, have a bunch of rules, put on referee/official clinics, etc. but what exactly is it that they do in terms of enforcing or policing violators? Clearly, very little in my opinion. The number of kids transferring is reaching epidemic proportions. Even Dan Ross, th...

Re: Quitting A Sport
No in almost all circumstances. For example, if a kid quits baseball and goes to track or quits track and goes to baseball, it lets down his/her teammates from the prior sport and he probably cheeses off a kid in the new sport whose spot he or she is taking. Such actions probably do not also foster ...

Re: Rio Grande inks two Southern athletes
I do not know anything about this young man's situation and there are times when transfers need to occur-job relocation, divorce of parents, etc. However, the State Athletic Association needs to get an immediate handle on the transfer situation in Ohio. With the monies they rack in, you think that t...

Re: Coach Jordan of Southeastern
Coach Jordan is a man I have long admired. He was old school and a lot more old school is needed in this world. There is nothing whatsoever wrong with discipline, hard work and doing things the bosses way. After all, that is life. He ran an excellent program for decades and I assume he ran it his wa...

Re: Boys Volleyball in southeast Ohio?
Question-if a boy wanted to play volleyball and boys volleyball is not offered at his school, but girls volleyball is, can he play on the girls team. Girls do play on boys football teams in Ohio since there is no girls' football.

Re: RAY CHAMBERS WINS IT FOR THE CAVS
As I mentioned on the 16th, I was very impressed by Chambers in the final four. Where is he going to school-does anyone know? For a while, it was reported he was going to OU. Is that the case? If not, what happened there and where is he going? He would make some D1 program a fine player.

Re: RAY CHAMBERS WINS IT FOR THE CAVS
Great game by Ray. He is definitely a player. Where is he going to attend college? Has he signed yet? If he has not, I would certainly hope that schools will be taking a long look at him and Avery from Newark. They got game.

Re: Belpre Eagles 2008 team
Belpre will be very good again. Their coach did an outstanding job last year and with the athletes they have, they should be very good again. All in all, I feel that the TVC will be pretty competitive with Nelsonville being the favorite until someone knocks them off with Boston, Arnold, Barrick and ...
