Re: Coal Grove Soldier killed in Afghanistan......
God bless him and his family. God bless all of our troops. Hero is a word cheapened by the way it is used these days. THS IS A HERO. All the great attributes that could be used to describe a fellow human being apply here; patriot, honor, courage, committment, loyalty, trustworthy, protector, the lis...

Re: American legion state baseball tournament
Well there you have it. An Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations is shoved out there to issue that statement. A lame attempt to cover themselves and long after it is too late. These problems are over several years not just last year. I started to a Copperheads game the other day and before...

Re: American legion state baseball tournament
I agree that OU has a public realtions problem and it is the baseball coach. I witnessed some of that arrogance first hand at an allstar game where many scouts attended. First of all I was surprised to see the coach there because this was mostly local kids. A young man's parents and other adults con...

Re: American legion state baseball tournament
These kinds of things happen when you have those that feel entitled. A coach that feels entitled because the AD and university allow it. I have always been curious as to why the university seems to have a problem with the coaches in the other two sports not winning. What is the deal with this sport?...

Re: American legion state baseball tournament
Bottom line: Up side of having tourney in Athens: Legion tourney brings in $400,000 to area; brings in potential students and athletes; tremendous good will to university and most importantly honors the American Legion and its great veterans who clearly deserve every honor bestowed upon them and wh...

Re: LBJ in south beach
I gave him too much credit. I thought he was different. He was made of better stuff. I guess it amazes me that these athletes have everything, they have all the money they are ever going to need, the have the admiration of the public and their fans and what do they do with it? They trash the one thi...

Re: Radar Not Required in Ohio To Give Motorists A Ticket?
In mayor's court you are guilty, period. As a matter of fact the mayor doesn't have to show up to the court hearing and you are still guilty. County court is your only chance, and I believe, may be wrong, that the mayor has to release it to county court so there you go. Democracy at it's finest. Goo...

Re: NCAA hands down punishment to USC
Knight is right as usual, until they punish coaches it will only get worse. Too much money everywhere. Too many people with no moral compass or ethics. The world is full of them. Although I believe no coach is totally aware of what boosters do the majority are trying their best to play by the rules....

Re: UNBELIEVABLE!!!
John Wooden was and will be one of my generation's greatest leaders. He was not a simple basketball coach. He was the man who came from Midwestern roots who lived a life that all of us should emulate. It saddens me to think that today's young people admire coaches that are only about themselves and ...

SSU also had Andrew Carter and Nick Ball named to the 2nd team and Quentin Everman, Ricky Masson, and Jordan Maier earned Honorable mention. SSU seems to be getting better year by year. It seems like there was some pretty good baseball being played in southern Ohio this year.

Re: Thoughts on Afghanistan
I agree with many things mentioned already. My two cents worth comes from a perspective that I am old enough to remember Viet Nam very well. The logic at that time is VERY similar to today. Then communism would be on our shores before you know it, now it's terrorism. Same argument, and likely same r...

He may have called it fair but I was told by what I consider to be a very reliable, source that was directly behind the backstop that he stated the rule incorrectly which gave the impression that he did not know the rule and was basing his call on the rule as he understood it. It makes little differ...

Re: 8th District Legion tournament
I did not hear the conversation but have been told the ump stated the rule wrong, and that makes me wonder if he was qualified to call a tournament game. I have also heard that he went on to make unprofessional comments after the play that makes his intentions even more suspect. I have the utmost re...

Sad to see one of the best retire so young. Coach Van Matre was one coach who understood that defense wins championships. I always admired the way his kids played on both ends. Congrats coach on a great career and enjoy.
