Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2023-24
A sectional final win will give the Trojans their 17th win, which would be the 34th time that a PHS boys basketball team has won at least 17 games. It's been a good 1st year for Coach Jeff Lisath: 1. First winning season since 2018 2. Best OVC finish (10-4 tied for 2nd) since 2015 (1st) 3. 10 game w...

Re: Rivalries in the SE
One oldtime rivalry will be reborn next season. Portsmouth vs. Chillicothe was as intense a rivalry game as any in the SE district. The Trojans and Cavaliers have played 88 times, and which CHS is the 2nd most frequent opponent all time for PHS. CHS leads the series 45-43 overall, but the Trojans le...

Re: Irontons Shaun Terry Committed to Notre Dame
Wish Shaun the best, great opportunity at a great school. Metrics can never measure the heart of a player. I'm quite sure that if ND didn't think he could help their program, they wouldn't have offered him.

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2023-24
Portsmouth opened up sectional tournament play last night, as the Trojans defeated Paint Valley 66-53 at Trojan Arena. PHS bolted out to a 21-11 lead at the end of 1 quarter, but the Bearcats cut that margin to only 4 at the half. The Trojans then took command for good in the 2nd half, building as m...

Re: Meigs vs Portsmouth
The Lady Trojans ended the season with 3 straight losses, so it's time to get their mojo back starting today. They showed what they're capable of with the win over Fairland, which is the only loss on the Lady Dragons record. When PHS is on their game, they're a team that can make a run to the Final ...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2023-24
With the cancellation of the Minford game, Portsmouth ends the regular season with a 15-6 mark, the fewest regular season losses since the 2015 team (16-6 regular season) which made the regional final, losing to Columbus Eastmoor 49-45. That 2015 team finished 20-7. PHS hasn't set foot on the Convo ...

Congratulations to Jace.....being the all time scorer at a school is a major accomplishment, and very difficult to do. Valley has had some really good ball players down through the year.

Re: OHSAA Board of Directors Approves Expansion Proposal
It will be interesting to see how the tournament will be structured now with 7 divisions......will the Convo have enough availability to conduct district and regional tournaments with probably at least 4 divisions? With more divisions comes the issue of getting enough sites and workers to have secti...

Re: OHSAA Hopes To Return To The Fairgrounds Coliseum for State Basketball Tournament In 2025
I like the Fairgrounds Coliseum and when I lived in Columbus, would see a lot of D1 district tournament games there. My only concern is that the facility needs more seats and some cosmetic upgrading. I remember the pizza was great though, washing it down with a Coke. It's not hard to get to, and the...

Re: OHSAA Board of Directors Approves Expansion Proposal
I'm okay with the changes, but I preferred splitting up D1 into 2 divisions and going to 5 divisions overall. But the 4 division system had to be fixed.....not fair to the small D1 schools. I remember when Portsmouth won the very first D2 state title in 1988. PHS was 2 boys from being D1 that season...

Re: OVC
Congratulations to the Chesapeake Panthers and Peake 71 on the OVC title. This season saw 5 teams that could have won the OVC title, and the champion Panthers were not crowned until the final game. Strong year for the conference, now let's see how that translates to tourney success. Proud of my Troj...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2023-24
Fairland did to Portsmouth last night what Portsmouth did to Fairland on Saturday, as the Dragons pounded the Trojans 75-47 @FHS. PHS came into the game with a perfect 6-0 road record in the OVC, but the Dragons dominated from the opening tip and PHS had no response, as the lead ballooned throughout...

Re: Lady Trojans scores and updates on the new season
Let's go Lady Trojans and end the regular season tomorrow with a win over a good Russell, KY team. Now is the time to get that winning momentum back now that the tournament is close. Those who have watched these Lady Trojans know what they are capable of, certainly good enough to get a share of the ...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2023-24
This 15-5 season has been very enjoyable because of how the situation looked heading into summer ball last year. After the 2022-23 season ended, Portsmouth was faced with the loss of 3 starters......Kenny Sanderlin, Tyler Duncan, then Devin Lattimore transferred to Wheelersburg in the spring. With a...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2023-24
The Trojans are playing their best basketball of the season now, and I'm feeling that a tournament run could happen for these Trojans. It would be great to see our kids get to play at the Convo, something that hasn't happened since the 2017 season. 64 sectional titles, 37 district titles, and 15 sta...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2023-24
Portsmouth continued its winning momentum Saturday night, as the Trojans beat Fairland 61-42 @PHS. The Dragons led 10-9 after 1 quarter, but a 25-4 edge in the 2nd frame proved to be the difference as the Dragons could not mount a serious rally after that. Donnovan Breech led PHS with 16 points, and...

Re: Portsmouth Fan
What happened after the game may have been perceived as intentional by some, but I can rest assure that it was not by any means. Remember, these are teenagers who just won a very important game in the OVC against a very good South Point team. I would fully expect them to celebrate in some fashion, a...
