Wrestlers with 100 or more varsity wins

Post by camnott »

Just curious of the wrestlers that have reached that milestone.
I know Brandon Taylor is somewhere around the 130's

Anymore 100 is nothing sad to say. But kids wrestle 50+ matches a year so 150 is a great mark to try and reach which with 40 wins a year is possible. At Nelsonville-York we have 4 kids with 130+ wins at this time. That is great Brandon has that many tough young kid. Jordan Cowell Archbold is about to set the Ohio record with 225 wins. He won over 60 matches last year and no state titles. I am old school and think all matches are crazy and that the season is to long. Here is the All-time records found at OHSAA web site.

Post by Mighty Mighty Devils »

Brandon Taylor has 143 wins right now Zack Tackett recently reached 100 over the holiday tournaments Over the last 6 or 7 years Gallia Academy has had several wrestlers break the 100 mark some of the names just off the top of my head sorry if i left any names out
Ben Dolittle
Tommy Saunders
Justin Saunders
Dustin Winters
Clint Saunders (had 99 due to late season injury while getting ready for district's)
Kyle Bays
Jared Gravely
Benjamin Saunders
Matt Watts
Brandon Taylor
Zack Tackett
to me 100 is still special its just easier to attain with most kids getting 50 matches a season now but as with most schools especially in southern ohio you don't get that many. To come into High School wrestling as a freshman and win 40 is something special which is what most kids in southern ohio have to do to reach the 100 mark.I know when I was in School an wrestling we were luckey to have more than 25 matches a season

I am suprised at the fact that most schools are getting 50 plus matches a season. I know Jackson is lucky to get 25 to 32 matches a year somewhat due to cancellations due to weather.

it's all about scheduling. you have to schedule 2 day tournaments where you get 10 matches a weekend. Point Pleasant used to do this too. I'm with tric118, that's way too many matches, but to each his own.

Two-day matches are fine, but you can only schedule so many. They are worth three points. Some districts (Warren Local) will not allow sports teams to do overnight trips during the season. They will allow it for sectionals, districts, and states. Unless the two-day tournament is close enough to home for us to come home and go back, it not going to happen. We would LOVE to go to West Jeff. or Brecksville, but "it ain't gonna happen"!

Neil I hate to hear that. That makes it tough when you can't get to those huge events for overnighters. Plus the kids love it. We have 2 2 day tournaments Marion and Brecksville.

Anyone know of anyone else who should be on the list, please let me know.

Nicholson finished with something like 96 (I don't have the right computer right now to check), he missed out on quite a few matches his freshman year.

I think, have to check, that I did leave out Hansis. I will double check that. Seems like he should have, he won 42 his senior year.

I will check both of these and let you know.

Good point Mighty. He was definetly a stud. I would be suprised if Hupp didn't. Looking at the number of matches actually wrestled, Barr has been in about 130 total matches since his freshman year. I guess it really suprises me the number of matches kids are getting. At the Marion tournament over the weekend one kid picked up his 200th win. Can't remember where he was from.
