OSU Coach Tom Ryan headlines ZHS Wrestling open house!

Post by Zanes-Vegas »

Ohio State wrestling coach Tom Ryan will help ZHS kick off its first season in 30+ years when he attends the Zanesville Wrestling Open House on Wednesday, October 6th. The event starts at 6 p.m. and will be held at the former Westview School, 2256 Dresden Road. This will be the Grand Opening of the team's wrestling room in the renovated facility. Pizza and refreshments will be provided.

Coach Ryan was the 2009 National Coach of the Year, after leading the Buckeyes to a national runner-up spot in the NCAA Championships. He's also a two-time REV coach of the year and seven-time conference coach of the year. As a collegiate wrestler at Iowa, Ryan was an NCAA finalist and two-time All-America.

Hats off to new ZHS wrestling coach Jeff Lawless for scoring this coup to kick off our re-established program!

Yes. I met him over the summer and all he wanted to talk about was his science classes. His priorities are straight. But he's got a great plan to build this program, and I think he'll be successful given some time. We've always had a bunch of kids sitting idle (so to speak) during the winter months (especially football players) and this should be beneficial for both programs in the long run.
