Licking County 13 Muskingum Valley 7

Post by LICKING COUNTY FAN »

Being Zanesville and some other schools battle some team in this area I decided to post this here.

Last night in Zanesville the all star team from Licking County did battle with the all stars from Muskingum Valley and when all was said and done the team for Licking County would post a, 13-7 victory.

Things started slow for the visiting team with a dropped ball by Shawn Smith(Licking Heights)on a nicely thrown ball by the very talented quarterback from Granville, Cory Belcher. After a nice punt by Jordan Spurlock the home team would start their first drive from their twenty- seven- yard- line.

Facing a third and long with 10:09 left in the opening quarter Brian Crader (Sheridan) was able to move the chains with a nice run on a draw play. The drive would end after five plays as the Licking County defense regrouped.

With 4:15 left in the scoreless opening quarter Sean Trent(Watkins) got to Crader for a big loss. Then with 3:47 showing on the clock the home team found themselfs facing a third and long. Brett Wycinski(New Lexington) would catch a nicely thrown pass from Treg Ulmer(Sheridan) to pick up another Muskingum County first down. Wycinski would get by Ricardo Hall(Watkins) and after catching another pass he would score. After the score Wycinski would add the point after to increase the lead to seven.

With just three minutes left in the quarter, Becher would be sacked by Robert Spillman (Sheridan) Soon after Spurlock would be called on to punt again.

Josh McClellan (Johnstown) just missed getting a pick. Then after getting the ball back after a punt Becher would scramble for a Licking County first down as he picked up eight yards on the play. With 5:42 left Licking County looked to have tied this one up but Adam Alderman (Granville) dropped his second ball and the score remain, 7-0.

The second half started with the Licking County defense getting a big sack by BJ Douglas (Utica) after that the home team would run two more plays and then punt the ball away.

Licking County would need only six plays to hit pay dirt and doing the honors was Sean Haines (Northridge) who used some nice blocking by his line and a lot of power to get into the end zone. Spurlock would tie things up with his point-after kick.

J. T. Bunning (Zanesville) would make a nice catch to pick up a first down for the Muskingum Vallet all-stars. With 7:26 left in the third quarter Kurt Sammons (Johnstown would sack the quarterback and force a fumble that Philip Grizer (Licking Heights) recovered.

The Muskingum County all-stars defense would shut down the drive by the visitors but JORDAN SPURLOCK, THE NEWARK CATHOLIC FAN PLAYER OF THE GAME would bail his offense out with a fifty-one-yard field goal that would have been good from fifty-five-yards, giving his team a, 10-7 lead.

With 4:43 left in the quarter Grant Markert( Licking Valley)just missed getting a pick. A couple of plays later the home team once again was forced to punt the ball away.

Facing a fourth and two Licking County made the choice to go for it and the talented Will Carter( Johnstown) used some power and a nice job by his front line to pick up the big first down.

Becher, who threw the ball well all night connected with Cameron Ross (Heath) who made a sweet catch and run all the way down to the Muskingum County eleven-yard -Line.

With 1:55 left on the clock, Spurlock booted a thirty-one-yard field goal to give his team, a 13-7 lead.

10:43 showed on the clock when Christian Daily( Philo) picked off a Becher pass. Nothing came out of this because the Licking County defense shut things down and did so rather easily.

The Muskingum County defense got a big sack on Jay Orders (Johnstown) with 6:55 left in the game.

The last big play in this one came from the visitors when Ethan Bremer (Utica) sacked the quarterback.

Once Lotozo got hurt, it was all over for Muskingum. All they could do after that was try and throw.
