Coaches had to work the weekend of the D:4-6, so meet officials OKed Minford competing with the D:1-3. Wheelersburg was also there.

It looks Minford established what it was missing all along, a solid weight program...its nice to see how balanced of a league the Soc has became over the past few years.

asf - with the QB being one of the most important positions on the team, give us a rundown on who will be competing for the starting job. Who is the favorite and who is the darkhorse? This will be a vital spot for the success of the Falcons this year.

I'd say Evan Howard would be the front runner. He was the backup last year as a soph so he knows the offense well. He was thrown into the fire during the Valley game and managed the game well. He throws a very good ball. Not as much of a running threat as Butcher, but who is? I know Coach Daniels likes to have QB's for more than one year if possible so he can groom them. Should be another good year in Minford with the returning O-line we have. Shouldn't need as mobile of a QB with our line this year.

Who else is in the mix?

Well ofcourse howard but the wiseman and gullion kids. I seen the wiseman kid play last year and he really impressed me, he is more mobile then howard and gullion. I heard gullion has a strong arm and can throw the ball really well.

My guess would be that Howard will be hard to beat out for Qb position. He is improving a lot, and is attending camps, and working hard to be the QB. Only time will tell!

They lost Slone and Piquett in the backfield. I know they return the Gaines boy, but who else are they going to have back there?

Should be a great line to run behind, thats for sure. But do we have a speedster like Piquett to run the ball this year?

Regarding the QB position and other RBs, that's what is great about the offseason, seeing which kid works the hardest and comes out of the woodword to earn the job. No one expected Piguet to have as much of an impact as he did as a Senior but that just goes to show when one gets himself into the weight room and works hard the rest will fall into place.

They will certainly have to step it up a notch. I think they will need 9 wins to get in, maybe 8 depending on who they would beat and how those teams are doing but it would be shaky. Looking at last year Sparta Highland played 5 DV and 1 DVI, lost two of those games, and hosted a first round game so it could happen for Minford too.

Basically they will need to do very well in the SOC II to make the playoffs.

I'm sure Coach Daniels and staff will just use moving up a division as more motivation to get the boys working just a little harder.

Minford is always going to be a solid football team because the kids buy in to the system, and in the rare occasions they dont have the talent per say.....they play hard and dont take any downs off, and that keeps them in most games.

Although the competition in reg 15 might I repeat MIGHT be better, Minford will have no trouble making the playoffs in this region. Tha last three years it has taken 16 or 17 points to make it in reg.19 while 14's got you in to reg.15. with minfords schedule the are a lock with 7 wins and 6 wins they still have a chance.

Agree that it may not take as many points to get in, but you don't want to have to play AT Ironton, Bishop Hartley or ACC in week 11. Getting into the top 4 will take nearly 20 pts and 8-9 wins
