I was at that freshman game tonight and it was very entertaining! Jackson starts out with control in the first quarter keeping the ball away from the Logan offense then after the first drive for Logan ended in a int, Jackson could not stop the Logan offense until halfway through the 3rd, then they regained control and looked like a different team,I could not understand the call in the first half where all the Jackson lineman jumped before the snap and they called offside against Logan but anyways congrats Ironmen on the big win.And for the varsity Logan should keep it close but fall by couple scores late.BTW did the Logan bus break down on the way down because I thought the game was supposed to start at 5:30 but the bus didn't come rolling up the hill until well after that and they already had their pants and cleats on, very strange

Best of Luck IRONMEN, another step towards an SEOAL Title.
Basically everyone in Jackson knows who I am. I'm NOT a coach.

IRONMAN02,

Wasn't what I meant to imply, just meant that it seems ALL coaches are always questioned about playing time and how much time a player puts in the offseason should determine playing time during season. Have faced this myself, just seems like some people don't understand that hard work to make yourself better should show personal PRIDE and WORK-ETHIC, nothing more when it comes to gameday. Appreciate all the time and hard work, but doesn't ensure a spot, just that you tried to improve your skills.

I understand now. Thanks for the explanation. Completely agree.

I know at the beginning of the season Jackson's coaches where excited about 80 kids coming out to play, now it's their job to coach them and make better players out of them. These kids come out to play football, not be part of a fundraising team for the program. There are juniors and seniors that have faithfully attended all practices and in the off season went to all the weight room training only to see a freshman jump in front of them. The coaches need to tell these older players what they need to work on, but I don't think this is happening. If the school likes high turnouts for the athletic programs, let these kids play and be part of the team.
Going to practice and weight lifting is being part of the team.Thats it. The rest is earned you don't get on the field for showing up. These kids have heard
this since peewee best players play on game day everybody has a role on the team if you want bigger role then you need to earn it let no one stand in
your way their are no friends on the field if want a spot. We pay coach Hall to win kids want to be part of winning program thats why the numbers are
so high Winning so don't complain about little Johnny not getting his time on the field because of Freshman this team wins and they will play hard to get time on the field so tell who ever if they want time on gameday their gonna have to earn it. or join the band but the bands pretty dam good at jackson so no freebies there either

Like I say, this is my opinion, if you don't like it, DON'T READ ANY FURTHER!!!!!

I would love to see all of Jackson's athletic programs to very successful, and most are. This year however, something is different. Jackson should be the powerhouse of southern Ohio. Teams should dread playing Jackson!!! One or two kids hurt shouldn't derail the game. You got 60-70 kids on the sideline and you don't have an answer on how to score? This program is setting itself up for some hard times in the future. I bet if you tell these players at the beginning of August that some of them will not to get to play at all, I bet you would lose 10-30% of them. But no, the staff will not do this, they need them for the fundraising effort for the school.

Starting on offense or defense for Friday nights SHOULD BE EARNED!!! I have seen only one or two coaches that tries to explain to players where they are missing their assignments, blocks or whatever. They actually breaks out a small marker board and draws it out for them. They are not yelling at the top of their lungs and stomping off. To me, this is coaching. I know coaching involves yelling also, however EXPLAIN to the players where they are messing up.

As for playing time, how can you tell if a player can be any good if they are always on the sideline? Some would say during practice, but alot of these kids don't even get to hit during practice. They stand and watch the starting offense play against the scout team defense. On top of that, on Friday night, the scout team defense players are praying for their call to sub in, only to learn that a freshman dressed for the game (which he just played in freshman game that week) steps in front of them and gets the call. What did these players do wrong?? How can they earn their playing time? The coaches haven't told them anything? Now, I was told this also goes on in the JV level also, and its the same players stepping in.

As for the pee-wee football program, my opinion, it is a mirror image of the high school program. Look at the coaches, look at who is playing!

I think if logan can run the ball, get in a few passes here and there to keep the defense honest, I think they win. If the undiscpline chiefs come out like they did the first five games then its gonna be a rout.

But if I had to give a score I'm gonna say Logan 28-17

As for jackson being powerhouse program thats why we are playing teams like granville, burg, athens as for this year we don't have district
poy like klay or austin no drews or tys. so if you watch the ironman from peewee up you should know we would not be as good as the last
two years. as for the coaching i do agree some of our coachs jump up and down and stomp thier feet and yell more than they teach.
But I see them coaching in practice also have seen them ask for scout team players and guess who jumps in and hits first team the kids
in the red pants. they ask for other players to jump in but most set back and watch 6 or 7 freshman play scout team so coachs try but they
should not have to ask for upperclassmen to step in they should be fighting for the time.

Jackson has history still to make this year. The Ironmen have never won the SEOAL three years in a row outright and we have winning streak
of league games going that this team has talent to keep going. and next year looks even better freshmen getting lots of playing time this
year and 4 or 5 8th grades that could help out next year if bodys keep growing. so tell the kids to find a role and do your best at it. Little guy
on varsity i think #32 had every tackle on kickoffs last week "great job" we need more like him. Parents should tell kids find a spot play your
best and the coach will give you a chance if not demand a try at one coach Hall gives you that chance.

Wow.

You'd think Jackson was the team coming in 1-5, and 5-21 over the last three seasons. The team that hasn't won at home since 2010.

You'd think Logan was the team that had won 2 straight SEOAL titles, had a 22-game regular season winning streak snapped this season, that is on a 12-game SEOAL winning streak, and that was 3-3 with losses to teams who are a combined 15-3 and will all make the playoffs. And to add to it, the team is doing well despite playing a ton of youth that will lay the groundwork for future winning seasons.

Yeah. Poor Jackson. Things are really messed up in the Apple City. Fire Hall. Fire the AD. Fire the Superintendent.

Just so the Jackson fans don't think I'm only giving them a hard time - it is interesting how many FEWER Chieftain posters there are this week after a win.

Looking forward to Friday. Jackson/Logan is probably my favorite game on the schedule - year in and year out. We're both proud to be "football" schools. And more often than not one of use wins the SEOAL.

Friday night will be the 90th meeting between Jackson and Logan, and last year Jackson became the most frequent opponent in Logan's history (we have played Athens 88 times and Gallipolis 80 times. Logan has played Nelsonville 55 times prior to consolidation and have played Nelsonville-York 29 times for a total of 84 meetings between the two communities.

If Jackson gets up a score or two early, it might be over. But if Logan at least plays them even in the first half, it could get interesting.

I'm also looking forward to the game tomorrow night. I always love it when the Ironmen and Chiefs battle it out. It looks like there will be plenty of rain in the forecast tomorrow night, and both teams have really been focusing on the running game anyway. We might be in for one of those old, smashmouth Jackson-Logan games that we grew up watching.

Both Logan and Jackson have lost to some good football teams, and things certainly haven't gone as they had hoped before the season began. However, both schools came through with wins in their respective SEOAL openers, and at this point, that's all that matters. Tomorrow night is a battle for first place in the SEOAL standings. The winner is still sitting pretty on the road to a league championship, while the loser has a lot of ground to make up, especially since GAHS is playing so well. As it usually does, the Jackson-Logan game will go a long way in determining who contends for the league crown.

Jackson was much better offensively last week, but now they need to show consistency. Can they come out and control the line of scrimmage and put points on the board again? Also, can they play defense the way that Jackson teams are supposed to play it? Logan will probably throw the ball some, but you know they're gonna want to feed the ball to McCarty as much as possible. Jackson MUST be physical, get to the football, and wrap up. Gotta stop the run.

As I said before, it's probably not gonna be a great night as far as the weather goes, but it's Homecoming at JHS. A good night to get win #2 out of 5 on the way to a third straight SEOAL championship!
