It can. But if they can handle it and it helps your depth. Play the best players. It does give them experience. Hasn't valley worked in freshmen the last few years? They've done ok.

Saying a freshman starting don't mean that the upper class men are not very good. My son started this as a freshman because it was a goal he set for himself his freshman yr. so saying the upperclassmen aren't good is not true

Understand there are exceptions but really a freshman starting over a senior or junior is not good. You may have depth but I would have loved to went against a freshman when I was a senior. Good luck this year!

I know a few freshman from over the years I can think of that gave everyone fits....including Seniors. There are those kids that are just natural freaks. So I don't agree with saying the upperclassmen aren't that good.

Age, body type, and weight lifting have alot more to do with whether a player can compete than grade. Some kids are lifting in the 6th grade now. Right or wrong that makes a big difference when players used to not lift until their freshman year.

West will be right in the thick of things with Valley and Wheelersburg, it could end in a 3 way tie. I'm happy the Indians have West and Burg in Lucasville.

Good luck to West in the upcoming season....except for 1 week.

From skimming through this last page about West football I would say they are going to be a force to be reckoned with this year. Sounds like they are machines in the weight room and have tons of talent coming back.

I also read that on the Minford, Burg and Valley pages.....So I guess we cant declare them SOC Champs just yet and should go ahead and play the 10 games!

Seriously....one thing I LOVE about southern Ohio is our love for high school football, passion for our teams and loyalty to our schools. I am glad we all get behind the last teams standing at the end of the year. I know I've been to my share of Valley, West and Burg playoff games.

It should be a very competitive conference again this year. I know for certain that the SOC II is getting a reputation as being a very good, physical and athletic football conference. Really no other conference in southern Ohio compares.

West has good coaching in place and I look for them to have a good season.

Well last year the Senators surpassed a lot of peoples expectations with having a whole new coaching staff. I'm sure coach Johnson and staff will have the boys ready for another great season. There is a lot of question marks to who's going to be playing where. I think West will be be very competitive and will be making another trip to the playoffs.

I hear a Swords kid is tough this year. Is he related to the Swords that was so good from West?

Coal Grove, Wellston. Race land,Portsmouth,Waverly , Fairland should all be weak or just terrible this year.thats 6 fairly easy wins.

Raceland is picked as a state title contender this year.
Waverly may surprise some this year.

West's schedule has improved alot. 5 years ago in 2010 it was:
Fairland (4-6)
Portsmouth (3-7)
South Point (2-8)
Rock Hill (2-8)
Chesapeake (5-5)
Waverly (0-10)
Minford (9-3)
Valley (8-2)
Northwest (3-7)
Wheelersburg (9-3)

South Point, Rock Hill, Chesapeake, and Northwest have been replaced by Newark Catholic, Raceland, Wellston, and Coal Grove.
