The only problem with that theory is Nelsonville-York is the ONLY D6 team in the Ohio. Athens and VC are in the same region. Meigs is only 1 division behind (and early projections show Athens could be a DIV as early as next year when the new divisional alignment comes out). The rest of the Ohio is DV. Now, take a program like NY, which is designated D6 because of enrollment - but their success on the gridiron makes them more than a D6 team. Marion Local is D7 - but lets face it - they are no D7 team/program. Every school, ever team needs to be looked at and evaluated differently and you can't just go off enrollment alone. (which is why competitive balance issues are consistently being brought to the OHSAA to try and pass every year). Marietta is a D2 program - but are they really? Valley is a D6 program - but are they really? Nelsonville-York may be labeled D6, but in my mind they are better than that.
BTW, Athens, if you want to talk 'enrollment'
took on and beat Zanesville = 432 boys
took on and beat Tri Valley = 400 boys
Toledo Central Catholic = 375 boys
Granville = 331 boys
Athens has 297 boys in the school.
How many times, how many posts did you see from Athens fans complaining about size difference in schools? Zero, zilch, nata.
The difference between Logan and Athens is 181 boys ... the difference between Athens and Nelsonville-York is 149 boys ... The Bulldogs faced the Chiefs in week ten for 30 years and never once did I hear Athens fans complain. Instead of crying all the time, go out, try and get better and win the darn game.
