WK 8 COAL GROVE VS. CHESAPEAKE (LITTLE BROWN JUG GAME)

Post by 2trap_4ever »

A lot on the line this week, any hope for playoffs for either team, the little brown jug, and possibly the OVC, going to be a fun time in the Peake on Friday.

Anybody have the win/loss history on this rivalry or what's the story behind "The Little Brown Jug?"

Just curious

didn't see Dolen's name in box scores. Is he injured or available for Chessie?

Running back for Coal Grove, and I don't even remember seeing him on the sidelines Friday night at Fairland.

Sorry, I misunderstood the original post. I thought the question was if he was available to play FOR Chesapeake. Haha!

After a huge 16 yard sack on fourth down by David Abrams and Red Pleasants, Jesse Rigsby hits Joe Akers for 44 yard td pass, same connection for the successful two point conversion. CG leads 29-0 with 9:45 to go

Good, solid win by the Hornets. It's always nice to go into Chesapeake and retain the Little Brown Jug. Coal Grove's playoff chances likely depend on an Oak Hill loss next week against Northwest and a Belpre loss either tomorrow against Parkersburg Catholic or next week against Eastern Meigs. The OVC is pitifully weak this year (even by OVC standards) and it will cost the Grove while other, comparable 7-3 teams like Oak Hill and Nelsonville-York get to go to the dance. Ironton and Portsmouth can't get in the conference soon enough.

Why so they can miss the playoffs too because of no competition?

How will Ironton miss the playoffs? They can still schedule Wheelersburg, Ashland, and two other non-conference games. They already play Portsmouth every year (who will now win more games and be a more valuable win). Most years, a win over Coal Grove will be worth approximately as much as a win over Oak Hill or Meigs.
The better argument is that the OVC schedule won't prepare them for the playoffs.
