week 7: Wheelersburg (5-1) @ Waverly (3-3) socII

Post by BurgGrad6 »

Wheelersburg travels to Waverly this week after defeating coal grove last week. While Waverly lost to valley. Thoughts on this game?

Waverly is not a bad team and shouldn't be taken lightly. They have good size and some pretty good athletes. I think Burg will win by 2+ scores

Relax, they only did it once. Pirates by as much as they want waverly can't defend. Burg has trouble against teams with power and can defend.

Burg gets back on track and scores early and often. 45-14 final.

Wow you have a head injury or something? That's at least two stupid things from you in one day. Slow down Einstein!

Burg needs to get that run D shored up for sure. They are becoming a door mat up the middle. However thay look solid everywhere else. Burg should win this game by 3+ scores.

Waverly is 2-4 with losses to Jackson, Portsmouth, Coal Grove and Valley. Portsmouth and Coal Grove were very winnable games. The Tigers got down early at Valley (3 turnovers) and never recovered. Injuries are going to be a big factor against the Burg, don't know who will be out.

I found this to be telling watching Valley vs Waverly... Waverly only tackled a Valley player scoring once the whole game in the end zone... Valley had receivers running wide open and running backs running through huge wholes. I don't care if Waverly turned it over 0 times Valley would have scored the same amount, but would have just wracked up more yards. I have no idea how they held Jackson to 23 points and were actually in that game in the 4th (my guess is Jackson is terrible passing and Waverly stacked the box, while Valley is exceptionally good at passing which left less people in the box).

Burg will win 42-14

I'm all for spreading the ball around but the Burk kid needs a lot more touches.

Finally someone sees what I see! Burk is probably the best player burg has! I don't understand why the coaches don't utilize him more like they should...

Lineman7,
I won't make excuses for losing to Valley but the difference you ask in Waverly vs Jackson and Waverly vs Valley is injuries. Now, I'm not saying Waverly would have beaten Valley but that may play into what you witnessed. And yes, 3 turnovers in the first half giving the Indians short fields makes a huge difference.

No their starting quarterback left game late 2nd qtr with a shoulder injury and did not return. Not sure how bad and dont know who they replaced him with but he lead a drive and scored late against our second string.

Actually the starting QB (RJ Perkins) left the game late 2nd quarter. Freshman came in to replace him. I don't know if Perkins returned 2nd half and was hurt again or if HItops means the 2nd string QB got hurt too.

no i meant i did not know what grade or who replaced perkins i did not get a roster before game . Perkins did not return and i was told that he left in the ambulance with a separated shoulder. I saw the squad leave but didnt realize there was a player in it at the time .

i hope he can recover, i dont like to see a player hurt for any team. its tough enough with the numbers most teams have let alone trying to replace a QB just as your starting conference play

Who will start at QB for Waverly this week? Is Perkins going to be back or will Kottenbrook be back or will Howell get the start? The other big problem for Waverly is that Perkins and Kottenbrook are also starting DBs.

You could notice a big drop off in the game Friday night when Perkins left. He is a really good player and Waverly is not near the same team when he is not on the field.
