River lost lots of seniors. Their coaches did a very good job last year with little talent. They were 4 and 6 and only 1:20 from a 5 and 5 season. They will be small and young and have very little experience. They will have the quarterback returning and some talented 9th grade players. They will be the underdog in most of their games. They will play hard and get better. They must avoid injuries. Eastern was a new addition as will be Paden City, who is loaded this year. A season of growth may be the description.

That's right, I forgot about the Flannery kid coming back. He'll put it in the air. Relying on 9th graders isn't a positive sign, but looks like a rebuild in Hannibal. Eastern should prevail.

River will scrimmage at Waterford with Bellaire St. Johns, at home against Valley high school(Wetzel co) and a preview game against Ritchie County. This was according to the coaches.
They will have their hands full against all these teams, that is my opinion, not the coaches.

So, looking more like 2-8 or 1-9 this season? Wow, heard there were young then I saw them doing drills today.
Looks like Jr. High size and what's with the black jerseys?

Look for the Eagles to win their first home opener in a long time tonight! A lot of people sleeping on the Eagles this year.....hearing good things from East Shade River Stadium.

I think River just wanted to pick up a sure 'W', even though Pilots won more than they lost vs. FF. Thought maybe River wanted to play Eastern at Don Drumm Stadium so both could play on turf.

WVMetronews is reporting that Eastern Local played Hannan and won 39-14.

Eastern must be a tough bunch to play 2 games at the same time.

Anyone know who really played Hannan?

I'm pretty sure Eastern Pike played Hannan.

It can be confusing. There are actually three districts in southeastern Ohio Eastern. One in Meigs county, one in Pike county, and one in Brown county. The Brown county school is larger and usually not confused with the other two. The other two are similar in size, are both called Eagles, and can/have competed against one another once tournament play begins. I've seen the Eastern in Meigs county referred to as Reedsville Eastern, East Meigs (not to be confused with Meigs High school which is also in Meigs county), Eastern Meigs, and Eastern. I've seen the Eastern in Pike county referred to as Eastern Pike, Beaver Eastern, Eastern of Pike county, and Eastern. For a number of years they each had a head basketball coach named Caldwell (cousins).

Often, posters aren't clear which Eastern is the topic so unless you're familiar with one or both programs it's hard to follow.

I think this may be the first year of varsity football for Eastern of Pike county. Maybe someone from that area will chime in.

I may not have everything exactly right but it's pretty close.

No reports were found on this game in any newspaper. Thought it might be online with the Messenger, but NO.
Anyone on this site go to this one?

River scored two touchdowns and two extra points and got a safety. Eastern scored twice and did not get the extra points. River played very well in the 2nd half according to the coaches, not giving up any points.

Them boys from the river done cheated my eagles. Those buttsucker refs were the reason the green and white went down. I see us 9-1 the rest of the way.
