I'm sure they were playing the same way they have all year

and that's why Trimble wont make it passed the second round. Anyone that played football, knows it's hard to do it in the second half. Athens went 6-4 and 7-3 not 11-2 in those years. Coaches just underestimate how good Athens offense is. I think I've seen more games than Athens punts

Since I'm staring at the numbers every Friday night, here are some of the Athens Bulldogs player stats that caught my attention through 9 games:
- Joey Burrow is 626 yards shy of 3000 passing
- Burrow is 132/184 passing with a 71.7 completion % and 141.5 QB rating
(For some perspective on this... 158.3 QB rating is perfect. So far this season Peyton Manning's QB rating is 123.3 and completion % is 71.6)
- Trae Williams needs just 80 yards to reach 1500 rushing
- Trae Williams has 25 rushing TDs (1 receiving TD)
- Ryan Luehrman is just 174 shy of 1000 yards receiving
- Troy Stalder has 78 tackles (average 8 per game)

You do realize though that the NFL QB rating is vastly different than NCAA or High School QB Ratings. Totally not taking anything from the young man, but the "perspective" using Manning is not really accurate.

I bet Payton couldn't put those kinds of numbers up against these tvc schools! He would struggle against their complexity!

Are all the athens football records now against tvc teams? Wondered if there were any records left from their seoal days?

In high school, Peyton had a 59.2% completion and 7,200 yards over three years. He's staying its rare to see a high school kid completing passes at an NFL completion percent

Burrow is a special player. Keep in mind he has a much better supporting cast than Grant Gregory. Both players make Athens fans proud. Gregory had a good career at a higher level. Time will tell for Burrows. Long way to go.

Totally disagree that Burrow has a better supporting cast. The Big difference is/was the level of competition that they each have/had played against and the vastly different styles in Offense.

When Grant played, the SEOAL was in the Prime of the League, and the level of Athletes was amazing for One League to have...

Not taking anything away from Joey and this group of kids though, amazing to watch and tons of fun to talk about! But I was there during the 2000-2003 seasons...it was a different monster.

I'm sure LoganLocos could fill you in on Grant's supporting cast ... a pretty special group in their day.

One thing for sure though, Joey's group has 2 more Play-Off wins than we ever did...and they are still playing! Go Bulldogs!

Payton also took all his snaps from under center in HS and played in a different type of system. Burrows is special, but my point is we cannot go comparing NFL QB rating to HS QB rating, mainly because they are totally different matmatical formulas.

The formula used to determine the QB rating was the same as is used for NFL quarterbacks. Yes, I am aware that playing QB in the TVC and SEOAL is dramatically different than playing against NFL teams. Nonetheless, the QB rating system used to determine Burrow's numbers was the same. Had we used the NCAA formula the number would have been around the 240s.

Joey Burrow would be the best defensive player in the league at Safety if he played both ways, without a doubt. Ask anyone around the program at Athens. He is too valuable on offense, the risk is not worth the reward. Ryan Luerhman does an outstanding job at that position as it is.
